Description

Feb. 18, 1930. C, v PETRSQN 1,747,527
WRENCH Filed Sept. 20 1926 Patented Feb. 18, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WRENCH Application filed September 20, 1926.
This invention has reference to wrench constructions and aims to improve the construction of end wrenches, the primary object of the invention being to provide means whereby the ends of the wrench may be adjusted to various angles with respect to each other to facilitate the use of the wrench.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a pair of adjusted connected sections,
means being provided for securing the sections in such a .way that the sections will be held stationary with respect to each other, while the wrench is in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein' disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a wrench constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an edge elevational View, the same being partly broken away.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the wrench includes a pair of pivotally connected sections 5 and 6 respectively.
The section 5 is provided with a head 7 and a pair of arms spaced apart, the arms being connected ata point adjacent to the inner ends thereof, by means of the pin 8.
The section 6 is provided with a head 9 and has its body portion cut away providing a tongue 10, which tongue is formed with an elongated opening for the reception of the pin 8 in a manner as shown by Figure 2 of the drawing.
Carried by the section 6 is a pin 11 that has its ends extended beyond the side faces of the body portion or section 6, the extended portions of the pin 11 being designed to t within the notches 12 formed in the enlarged end portions 13 of the section 5.
Notches 14 and 15 respectively are provided adjacent to the outer side edges of the 0 enlargements 13 so that the section 6 may be Serial No. 136,580.
moved at an oblique angle with respect to the section 5, in a manner as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1 of the drawing.
Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, the sections may be swung to various angles with respect to each other, to permit the wrench to be used in restricted places.
I claim:
n A compound wrench, comprising two sections, each having a head of the open end wrench type and a shank, the side faces of one of said shanlrs being cut away to form a flat reduced portion, said portion being provided with a longitudinal, elongated, centrally disposed slot and a pin passing through said portion at a point spaced from the inner end of said slot, the ends of said pin projecting from either side of said reduced portion, the other of said shanls being bifurcated to receive the reduced portion of the other shank between the furcations thereof, a pin joining said furcations and adapted to pass through the elongated slot in the other section to permit sliding movement of the sections with respect to each other, said furcations terminating in fan shaped segments, which segments are provided with arcuate outer ends and converging side portions, said outer ends and side portions being provided with notches for the reception and retention of the respective projecting ends of said first mentioned pin, whereby numerous angular adjustments of said wrench may be obtained, said segments and pin being disposed at a substantial distance from the ends of said wrench so as not to interfere with the ready manipulation thereof.
l In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
CARL VICTOR PETERSON.
