Description
Feb. 11, 1930. c, LOCKWQQD 1,747,016-
RAZOR BLADE HOLDER Filed NOV. 4, 1927 Patented 11, 193i) PATENT OFFICE CLIFFORD G. LOCKIVOOD, OF HAMILTON, OI-IIO RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER Application filed November 4, 1927. Serial No. 231,142.
hIy invention relates to holders adapted to be used for the purpose of honing asafety razor blade.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inez; )ensive device which may be used as a holder for a safety razor blade, particularly one of the Gillette type, so that the same may be conveniently and effectively stropped.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description thereof.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an edge elevation of the device with the parts assembled for use.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of one of the holding plates or members.
Figure 3 is a perspective of the other plate or member.
Figure 4 is a perspective of a part illustrating the assembly of the two plates.
Figure 5 is a perspective of the handle end of the plates.
Figure 6 is a side elevation of the device 'ith the razor blade inserted.
Fi ure 7 is a section on line 77 of Fl O b ure 6.
The device consists of two plates or members 1 and 2 respectivelv. Said plates are stamped from sheet metal of suitable r git ity. The plates 1 and 2 are provided *ith integrally formed handle sections 3 and 1 respectively, the plates being formed by the die to bulge outwardly as shown in Figure 1, for instance, so as to provide a suitable grip. The outer end of the plate 1 is provided with a bent finger 5 which is adapted to fit into the eye 6 on the end of plate 2 in the manner clearly shown in Figures 1 and l of the drawings, The holding sections of plates 1 and 2 are also formed by the die so as to bulge outwardly, as also clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, for the purpose hereinafter mentioned. The handle section 4: of plate 2 is provided with upwardly and outwardly sloping flanges 7 and 8, the said flanges diverging in the direction of the plate. The handle section 8 of the plate 1 is provided with sloping edges 99 adapted to abut against the flanges 7 and 8 when the parts are assembled, the upward and outward flare of said flanges serving to center the plate 1 over the plate 4 as the plate 1 approaches plate 2 in assembling, and also to force the plate 1 forwardly so as to cause the finger 5 to engage firmly in the perforation 6.
The use and operation of my razor blade holder will be apparent from the foregoing description thereof. The blade to be stropped is placed between the plates 1 and 2 and said plates assembled merely by'the user grasping the handle sections of the plate between his fingers, which causes the same properly to center and seat as above set forth. When the blade is so held it may be, as will be seen, readily stropped, the fulcrum of bulging plates 1 and 2 serving to present the edges of the blade 10 at the proper angle in order to accomplish the desired result.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character specified, a pair of plates adapted frictionally to hold a razor blade, each of said plates being provided with a handle section, interlocking means on the ends of said plates opposite said handle sections, diverging and sloping flanges arranged to form cam surfaces on one of said handle sections, the other handle section being provided with abutting surfaces to fit between said flanges and to ride on said surfaces so as to center and interlock said plates when forced one against the other by the ordinary gripping of the handle in use.
2. In a device of the character specified, a pair of plates adapted frictionally to hold a razor blade, each of said plates being provided with a handle section, the end of one of said plates being provided with a finger and the other plate being provided with an eye, whereby said plates are arranged to interlock, diverging and sloping flanges arranged to form cam surfaces on one of said handle sections, the other handle section being provided with abutting surfaces to fit between said flanges so as to center said plates and force said finger into said eye when said handles are gripped for ordinary use.
CLIFFORD G. LOOKWOOD.
