IMPROVEMENT IN RUNNING-GEARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,6 [0, dated March 7, 1876; application filed February 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED B. WROTH, of Winterset, in the county of Madison and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Reaches; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, makingpartof this specification, in which the figure is a perspective view, showing the reach applied.

D the stationary portion of the reach, and E the sliding-portion. On the forward end of the portion D is secured the collar 6, bracing the hounds securely to the reach, and with an open space through which moves the sliding portion E. To the rear end of the portion E is secured the collar 0, fitting over and em bracing the stationary part D, as shown in the drawing. It is evident from this description that my improved reach has an easy adjustment for a distance limited only by the length of the hounds, as the slide 6 is made to play between the axle A and the point of junction between the hounds.
It is also evident by this construction I avoid the objection that the reach is greatly weakened by the slot, as shown in my former patent, and I also utilize one of the collars in strengthening and securing the hounds.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In combination with the axle A, stationary portion D, and hounds O (3, provided with the collar 0, the sliding portion E provided with the collar 6, all constructed to operate as and for the purpose described.
