The present invention relates to improve# ments in safety razor bladeV holders and has for its principal object to provide adevice for -holding a safety razor blade during the sharpening of the cutting edges thereof.
An important object ofthe present invention is to provide a safety razor blade stropping holder which includes a pair ofcoacting hingedly connected clamping plates between which a safety razor blade is adapted to be secured against slidable movement, means being provided for securing the clamping plates together, additional means being provided for automatically swinging the top clamping plate Vupwardly 'when the locking means is released to facilitate the removal of the blade from the holder.
Still a further object is to provide a safety razor blade stropping holder of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong vand durable and further well adapted to the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent during the course of the following description.

vIn the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral yl designates generally my improved safety razor-blade stropping holder, the same com# prising a hollow elongated handle 2, the upper forward end portion thereof being out away.l Y-
A flat elongated strip 3 is arranged within the handle 2 and formed on the forward end of this strip is the rigid bottomV clamping plate 4, the same being disposed across the cutaway forward end portion of the hollow handle The strip 3 may be secured within the hollow handle 2 in any suitable manner. Above the strip 3 andeXtending transversely' across said strip, are spaced. guide straps 5, the purpose of which will be presently described.
The clamping plate 4 may be soldered to the upper edge of the cutaway portion of the hollow handle and adapted for cooperation with the bottom clamping plate 4 is a similar shaped top clamping plate "6, said clamping plates being hingedly connected together along their rear edges as at 7 An arcuate shaped packing plate 8 is soldered to the outer face of the top'clamping plate 6 so that when the clamping plate 6 isdisposed on top of the clamping `plate 4, the arcuate portion 8 will form an extension of the hollow handle 2 as obvious from ther construction disclosed in Figures l and 3.

The clamping plat-es are ofsuch width f as to be less than the widthof the-razorV blade whereupon the cutting edge of the razor blade will protrude beyondfthe free longitudinal edges of the coaoting clamping plate in the manner'as shown in Figuresfl and 4.
My vinvention further includesv the provision of means for positively securing the clamping plates in a closed position and to this end, a locking bar 1l extends longitudinally through the hollow handle 2 and is arranged for slidable movement'betweenthe top face of the strip 3 and the guides 5 as suggested in Figure 3.

The hook 13 is adapted to eiigagewith the inner end portions of the clampingi plate. r A
head or knob 16 is carried by the inner endsof the ylocking bar 11 fer` disposition outwardl of the jinner end of the handle where y to actuatesaid lock bar.

It will thus be seen fi'om the foregoing description, that'I have rovided a safety .cost and the same will be 'strong and durable.

A safety razor blade stropping holder. comprising a hollow handle, a bottom .bladel clamping plate carried bythe forward Yend of thehandle, a coacting top clampingplate hiiigedly connected along one of its 'longitudinal edges to the adjacent longitudinal edge of the bottom clamping plate,and means for ,securing the clampingplatesto- Y gether to hold a safety razor .bla-de. there` between, said meansv comprisingzaslidable lockingrbar extending through. the:.handle and below the bottom clamping plate,the forward ,end ,of said clamping bar being bent to forma hookfor engagement overthe outer ends of` the clamping plate, a `hook struck out from the intermediate A portion of the locking bar, the inner end portoiiafofl the clamping plate being formed with communicating openings through which the last mentioned hook is operable, said last mentioned hook adapted to engage the recessed inner end of the clamping plates, an actuating knob on the rearend of the locking bar, and spring means associated with the locking bar for normally holding the same in a rearwardly urged position to maintain the hook in locking engagement with the clamping plate, and means for automatically swinging the top clamping plate upwardly when the locking means is released.
3. A razor blade holder comprising a hollow tubular handle having its upper forward end portion cut away to provide a lower semi-circular extension, a pair of clamping plates having co-acting means for gripping a razor blade therebetween, one of said plates being Xed to and bridging the said semi-circular extension and the other plate having an arcurate shaped backing plate adapted, when the clamping plates are in raised clamped position to form a continuation of the upper end of the said handle, means for securing the clamping plates together, and means for automatically raising the hinged top clamping plate upwardly when said locking means is released, the last mentioned means comprising a spring pressed plunger carried by the extension of the handle and through an opening provided adjacent the hinged edge of the bottom clamping plate for engagement with the ad jacent portion of the top clamping plate.
4. A razor blade holder comprising a hollow tubular handle having the upper forward end portion cut away to provide a lower semi-circular extension, a pair of clamping plates having co-acting means for gripping a razor blade therebetween, one of said plates being fixed to and bridging the said semi-circular extension and the other plate having an arcuate shaped backing plate adapted when the said clamping plates are in blade clamping position for forming a continuation of the upper end of said handle, the said extension-supported plates having an elongated integral portion projecting within the said hollow handle and provided with guiding means, a slidable spring pressed locking bar operable in the said guiding means of the said 4extension supported plate, and having hooks operable within registering openings in the said clamping plate for locking the latter together, and means for automatically opening the said plate when said locking means is released.
