Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. POOL, of
a new and Improved Plow, of which the following is a specification: a
Figure i represents a side elevation of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the plow-stock, detached from the handles and beam. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical transverse section of the stock on line 0 c, Fig. 2, showing heel attachment. Fig. 4 is a front view of the stock, partly in section, on line as r, Fig. 1. Figs. 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 show detail views of various attachments to the plowstock.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention consists in a stock, which is/ combined with a forked piece, having sharp projections and a pair of blocks, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents the plowstock, which is attached by the forked and curved top arm rigidly to the plow-beam. The
the various shapes of plow-shares that are employed for the different operations, a V- shaped front shoulder, "c t,;of the stock serving, in connection with a-i-projecting lip or lug, b, near the point of tlie ioot, and a screw-bolt, d, passing backward through the stock, to attach rigidly the shares, which are provided with corresponding recesses, indentations, and holesfor the shoulder, lip, and bolt. The rear corner of the foot of the stock is recessed for applying thereto the U-shaped heel or shoe B, that fits ina tongue, 0, of the stock,
and is firmly riveted by one or more lateral bolts. The under side of the heel is on alevel with the point, and acts asa bar for'steadyin g and guiding the plowing. The heel B may be easily taken off and replaced when worn out by use.
Different shapes of shares may be used with the stock, according to the width .or depth of the furrows required, Figs. 4, 6, and 7 indicating various shapes which may with great facility be attached to the stock by the fastening-bolt d and its rear crank-nut d.
O is an attachment, to be used with narrow share for forming a smooth surface at bottom of furrow for the reception of cotton-seed.
It is constructed witha curve upon its work- 1 ing face, and provided with forks c c, that embrace the standards, and are fastened thereto by a bolt or rivet, 0 It has also a shoulder 0 that fits snugly up against theheel B.
The smallblocks g g are arranged one on each side of standard, to press out the upper part of furrow, that it may the more conveniently receive the manure and corn which are to be inserted.
What I do claim as new is l. The attachment 0, forked and combined with standard, as and for the purpose described- I 2. The blocks 9 g, arranged one on each side of standard, as and for the purpose specified.
