Description

Pnocsss oF MAKING FooTwEAh Filed oct. 6, 1928 INVENTOR 72:94, /r/MLZ @fl bw mi am ATTORNEYS Patenten Jan. 1, 1930 Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TAIzo Komm, or. xUnUME-sm, .TArAN PBCESS E MAKING FOOTWEAR Appueafuon 111m oetaber e, 192e.` serial No. 310,735.
invention,` the footwear is provided with two' insoles of different sizes and the margin of the larger insole made of cloth is'stitched up to and around the lower circumference of an upper of like cloth pro rly cut and tailored. The stitched-up e ges of the larger insole and the upper are then bent down underneath the larger insole, a depression thus formed in the middle of the insole being fitted up and filled with a smaller insole made of like cloth, after which a welt consisting of a rubber tape is stuck thereto so as to wrap up around the edge of the lower surface of the insole as well as the lower lcircumference of the up er, while a rubber outsole is stuck over the ower surface of the insole and the welt. The object of the present invention is to prevent the stitched-up edges of the upper and the larger insole from becoming bulky by around 'the insoles differing in size, and to cause the footwear to be comfortable to the wearer by securing the rubber outsole and the welt over thesmooth surface in an easy and perfect manner, moreover, giving it durability and strength in every res ect.
For a better understanding o Vmy invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawings wherein:
A present invention.
AFig. 3 is a vertical section of a partially completed shoe in accordance with the invention, A
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of an insole in accordance with the invention Same iguresused on the drawings show the same or the like parts.
in connection witli the drawings, an upper (1) is suitably cut and tailored into a proper shape out of such textiles as made of cotton, hemp, wool, and/or other fibrous materials.
The margin of the larger insole-'(2) made of laying them in the marginal step formed Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are perspective views of two types of footwear in accordance with the` VConsidering' the invention more in detail like cloth is stitched up with stitching yarn (3) to and around the lower c1rcumference of the upper 1) The stitched-up edges (4) are then bent down underneath the insole (2), and the depressed space (5) thus formed in the middle of the insole is filled up with a' smaller insole (6) made of like cloth, which is either secured with the stitching yarn (7) or cemented into the position with lrubber cement, so that the lower part of the upper (1) and the lower surface of the insole (6) are caused to form a common. flat surface. Then,
by using rubber cement, is stuck thereto a v welt (9) consisting of a rubber tape so`as.
to wrap up around the edge of the lower surface of the insole (6) as well as lower circumference of the upper, while a rubber outsole (8) is stuck over the lower surface of the insole (6) and the welt (9), thus formin the footwear.
y invention can ofcourse be applied to footwear in the Vstyle of either a shoe or a tabi Tabi is a type of footwear generally worn by the Japanese, which differ greatlty from a shoe in its having a separate part or the'great toe. v f
Not only this, but also the tying of footwear made in accordance with thepresent in-l I' vention can be done in whichever convenient manner of tying by means of a shoe-lace (10) passed'through the eyelets suitably provided onthe upper. part of the upper, or of fastening the clasps (11) up to the matchingstrings (11') suitably provided on the back of the upper. f
In the present invention, as above mentioned, a larger insole (2) and a smaller one (6) both made of cloth are 'put together one above the other, and the marginof the former is stitched up to and around the lower circumference of the upper (1) made of like cloth. The stitched-upl edges are then lbent ,down insuch a manner that they become closed in the marginal step formed by the said -1 lnsoles differing in size, thus causing the lower circumference of the upper (1') and the lower surface of the insole l(6) to form a common flat surface, aroundand over which vare stuck the welt (9) and the outsole (8) both made of rubber, whereby is prevented the bulkiness of the stitched-up edges and afforded footwear comfortable to the wearer. At the same time, the working is made easy and perfect throu h the sticking of rubber welt (9) and outso e (8) over the at surface, with additional advantages of the entire structure being made strong and durable.
I claim:
A method of making footwear, which comprises stitchin the marginal portion of a cloth insole to t e lower edge of a cloth upper, bending said stitched portion of the insole and upper under said insole, ttin a smaller insole to the under side of said rst named insole within the margin formed by the bent stitched portion, bendlng a rubber tape welt around said bent portion and securing said tape to the under surface of said smaller insole and to said upper, and securing a rubber outer-sole to the lower surface of said smaller insole and to said welt.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
