Patented Dec. 31, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE REENFORCEMENT FOR STRONG ROOMS, SAFES, AND THE LIKE Application filed June 1, 1927, Serial No. 195,832, and in Great Britain June 11, 1926.
This invention relates to reenforcements for strong rooms, safes and doors of the type consisting of interwoven rows of interwoven coils embedded in concrete to produce a reenforced concrete structure.
The object of my present invention is to provide simple and efficient means for maintaining the coils in spaced relation to one another, so that the structure will be rigid for transport and concreting purposes.
In accordance with my present invention, the interwoven coils are made of such a pitch and diameter and the metal of which the coils are made is of such a thickness, that spaces .15 are left between the points or positions where the coils in one row interweave with those in another row, each of the said spaces occurring between the peripheries of four coils and so providing for the reception of a rod which 2 is passed through the reenforcement in each such space. Each rod therefore bears upon or engages four coils.
A complete reenforcement with rods through the spaces provided as aforesaid is very rigid and the coils are maintained in extended formation for transport and concreting purposes.
Referring to the accompanying sheet of explanatory drawings Figure 1 is an elevation and Figure 2 a plan representing a three row type spiral reenforcement having this invention applied thereto.
Figure 3 is a plan, to a larger scale, showing one of the spacing rods.
The same reference letters in the three views indicate the same or similar parts.
In the example illustrated, the reenforcement comprises a central section or mattress extending from a to 6, including three interwoven rows of right handed spiral coils as 0, said mattress being interwoven at its ends with sections or mattresses each including three interwoven rows of left handed spiral coils as cl.
The spacing rods as e are inserted through the spaces left between the positions at which the coils in one row interweave with those in another row as indicated at Figures 1 and 2, and also (and more clearly) by the larger view at Figure 3 which shows one of such rods and portions of its associated coils.
The coils may have additional reenforcement therein as described in my concurrent application No. 195,7 99 filed June 1, 1927.
What I claim is A reenforcement for concrete and the like comprising a plurality of interwoven rows of interwoven coils having spaces parallel with the axes of the coils between the positions where the coils in one row interweave with those in another row, each of the said spaces occurring between the peripheries of four coils, and rods extending through said spaces to make the reenforcement into a rigid frame.
