GARMENT RETAINER.
Application led June 18,
of the wardrobe section of the trunk. The
Y connectingr means between the vretainer and the side strap members are usuallyY secured to the retainer by screws, nails or rivets with the result that the retainer member, whichis formed of wood, is often split or broken by the fastening means extending through the wood.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to overcome the before mentioned objectionable features and provide a garment retainer in which the means for adjustably connecting the opposite ends of the retainer to the side straps of the trunk section are secured to the retainer without the use of screws, nails or rivets in a very simple manner.v y
A further object of the invention is to provide a garment retainer in which the end members of the bar are stamped from sheet metal and are formed to positively engage j the bar member and to reinforce the same.
A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a garment retainer in which one end portion thereof is automatically, adjustably locked to one ofv the side strap members. A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a garment retainer which is of simple construction, is strong and durable, and is well adapted for the purpose desired.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists of the improved garment retainer and its parts andy combinations as set forth in the claim and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying` drawing in which the same reference numerals indicate the same parts in all of the views:
Fig. 1 is a front view of a portion of a wardrobe trunk provided with the improved garment retainer;
F ig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View therei921. serial No. 478,587. Y
of on a larger scale taken Online 2&2 of Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view on a larger K scale taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1;
.Fig 4 is a longitudinal sectionalfdetail view on a larger scale taken onl line 1- i of Fig. 5 is a similar view taken online"'5-'-5 j of Fig. 1.
Referring-to the drawing the numer'a-lf' indlcates the wardrobe section'of1a"tirunk,'
V9 the other section hingedtlieretoandl 10 the garment retainer slidably rmountedl within said wardrobe section. The wardrobe sec- I tion is of ordinary construction r`and vis vprovided 1n its upper portion with the usual garment vhangers (not shown) which vsupport the apparel or garments in extended y position. Metal retainer bars engaging guide members 11'are mounted on the opposite side and rear walls of the ward'robe section of the'trunk. Medial portions 12 of said guide members 11 yare spaced a slight distancefromy the side walls of the compa-rtment to accommodate the opposite engaging portions of the retainer bar 10. The said guide members at their medial portions are provided with spaced bolt openings forming shoulders 13 for locking the retainer therev to in adjusted position. One end portion of the retainer is provided with a fixed integral bolt member 14 which is stamped from sheet metal to form a forwardly curved bolt portionv 15 of U-shape in cross section and a band-like attaching portion 16 adapted to extend around one en'pl portion of the wooden bar 17. Said band portion 16 at' its opposite edges is formed with inwardly extending tangs 16 which areforced into the side portion of the bar 17 to rmly fasten the fixed bolt member to the bar forwardly to permit the entrance or the removal of the curved bolt part 15 from the bolt openings. Said curved portion 15 prevents the bolt from accidentally slipping out of the bolt openings if the side walls of the trunk section should spread apart.
rlhe opposite end portion of the retainer band-like form and fastened to the end otv the bar, opposite to the fixed lock, in the same manner With tangs as vthe fixed lock and the same reference numerals Will apply.'
v The bolt 18 is held yieldiiiigly ints outer position by a coiled spring 2O and is provided With a handle 18 for convenience' in drawing the bolt fromthe bolt openings 13 of the adjacent guide bar 11, into which said bolt isl adapted to enter. The casing 19 is formed With `guide lingers 21 extending' above and below the adjacent guide bar 11 to prevent the retainer bar from tilting over edgewise and also to serve as guides to prevent the movement ot' said retainer bar in any direction other than horizontal in engaging or disengaging the guide bars 11.
kFrom the foregoingdescription it will be lseen that.` the garment retainer is Well ad apt-A ed. for the purposel described.
Thatk Irlaim as my invention is:
[The combination with a pair ot spaced guide members having spaced openings forming locking shoulders, a bar member extending longitudinally between said guide members, an integral band like locking. member extending around one yend portion ofthe bar member and having With relation to the bar member a fixed forwardy projecting' bolt termed With an outwardly extending' hook Shaped end which extends into one of the bolt openings of the adjacent guide member' and is disengageable therefrom only by forwardly swinging motion of the bar member, the openings'engag'ed being; ot less diameter than the length ot the hook portion another integral band like locking' member extending around the opposite end of the bar membe and having; ,quideinge-rs \vliielife1i9;age the upper and lower edge portions of the adjacent guide members` and a spring actuated bolt member yieldingly mounted in said last mentioned locking' member andereY tending between the lingers and entering one of the openings o'll the adjacent guide member.
In testimony whereof, Ijaiix my` signa ture.
