Original application m February 12, m1, Serial No. 444,303. Divided and um application and January 80,1922.
Thisis a divisional application, bein a part of my original application filed ebruary 12, 1921, Serial No. 444,363.
The invention relates to bottles and means 5 for applying thereto or removingtherefro'm' a cap. 1
'Itis an object of the invention to provide a a bottle which is formed with a depression or seat exteriorly of its neck for the reception of a gasket with which the cap when in closing position enters into engagement.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a cap with a central depression portion capable of receiving a member whereby the cap may be conveniently laced on the bottle neck or removed there rom.
' With these and other objects ,in view,
which will appear as the description of theinvention proceeds, the latter comprises the 20 means set forth in the following specifica tion, particularly pointed out in the claim forming a part thereof, and illustrated in "the'accomp'anying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of .a botwith my invention.
. Figure 2 is a top plan view of the bottle.- Referring to Fi res 1 and 2 of the drawing, 1 generally enotes a bottle which has 30 the form of a so-called Mason 'ar, but
which of course may have any ot er pre-' ferred form-or shape to meet special requirements. The bottle 1.is provided with a bottom 2 and with a side wall 3 which maintains uniform cross-section throughout the major portion of .its height. At theupper end of the side wall 3- the same is.
formed with a circumferential bead 4 and 1 thence passes into a horizontal-portion 5 or 9 less thickness than the bead 4, so that a circular grooveordepression 6 isformed for a purpose hereina er further referred to.
The horizontal portion 5 passes into a ver- Serial in. 530,543. 1
similar to the corrugations 8, so that the cap may be screwed onto the neck or unscrewed the 'asket and the cap. The latter is formed at t e top with a central diametrically exf tending groove 12 of rectangular cross-sec-J -'tion and interposed between the top of the cap 9 and the upper edge of the bottle neck flared outwardly. It .follows is a disc 13 which is pressed into contact with the edge ofthe bottle neck by the cap.
From the foregoing it follows that" the bottle is hermetically sealed at the top by virtue of the provision of the gasket and the disc 13 so that air or vapors cannot enter into the bottle. nor escape therefrom, which is highly desirable for the proper con servation or storin of the contents intended to be placed into t e bottle.
I claim: A bottle, comprising a bod portion having an elon ate neck of re uced diameter exterior-1y t readed, the upper part of the- .body extending upwardly to form an annular fla e concentric with the neck portion to provide an annular recess in the upper part of the body portion, a gasket positioned I 1 1n the recess and resting on the upper part of the body, a cup shaped cap threaded on 'said neck and engaging said gasket, the
upper portion of said cap extending upwardly inwardly to form a transverse tool receiving slot of less length than the diameter of the cap the annular recess being of suflicient to accogimpdagade gale gasket and a sea com ,un pac ereinan a disk interposed between and engaged by the upfir edge of the neck'and the cap;
witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed ny name this 14th day of January,
'sALoUN.
