My invention relates to'an improyernent lnguard rail fasteners.
The present invention affords .a very strongand secure fastening more particularly for Woodenties, and has several advantages" over 1 former constructions, iti'bei ng more flexible in general application, because it is my .pu-rfpose to furnish the guard rail which is applicable to any sectionflozf rail, with proper relationship to the main rail which is obtained 'by varying the position ofits seat. in the braceeohair.

The lagscrewsbeing-driven into the tie on either side of. the chair-seator brace'through the holes provided therefor in the base and tieplate afford auxiliary fastening for the chair-seat or brace, but their main purpose is to prevent the tie-plate from moving on the tie. the combination'ofa main rail, a tie plate therefor, and a chair seat or brace seated upon said tie'plate and abutting against the the combination vof a main rail,'a tie plate edge of the main rail flange, said chair seat or brace having a flange extending outwardlytherefrom and overlapping the main rail flange for holdingsaid main rail in position. v I i 2. Ina device of the character .described therefor, a chair seat or brace seated upon said tie plate and having a base abutting against the edge of the main rail flange,
said chair seat or brace having an outwardly T and cooperating with the base to hold said extending flange spaced apart fromthe tie plate-for overlapping the main rail flange main rail in proper position, and a guard rail carried'by said chair seator brace.

Means of the character described including a flanged tie-plate having a shoulder and a ridge, and provided with a slot, one wall of which is inclined, a main rail secured against the ridge, a chair-seator brace fitted between the base flange of the main rail and the shoulder and having a tongue which extends through the slot in the tie-plate and against the inclined surface, the chair-seat or brace having a projection which ext-ends'over the base flange for securing the main railin place, and means for securing the chair seat or brace rigidly in place. Means of the character described including a flanged tie-plate having a shoulder and a ridge, and provided with a slot,- one wall of which is inclined, a main rail secured against the ridge, -a chair-seat or brace fitted between the base flange of the main rail and the shoulder tongue which extends through the slotin' the the chair-seator brace having a projection which extends over the base flange for securing the main rail in'place, means for securing the chair seat or brace rigidly in place, and a guard-rail held by the chair-seat orbrace.
