DOOR LOCK.
` Application led November 22, 1926.
This invention relates to certain novel improvements in door locks and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of thisV character which will be highly efficient in use and economical in manufacture.
Among the several objects `of the present invention is to provide a door lock which has an electrically controlled latch bolt which is operable by a selective switch for automatically throwing the latch bolt into latched position with its keeper plate whereby to lock the door from the inside of a room.
The latch bolt of the lock to be hereinafter more fully set forth is adapted to be controlled electrically within a room including the door with which the lock is associated, whereby if one inside of the. room attempts to escape after committing an offense, the latch may be expeditiously thrown into latched position with its keeper plate, thus preventing the escaping person from leaving the room. It will be seen from the descriptions hereinafter to follow that my improved door lock will be especially of great utility when used on the doors of a jewelry store or the like.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the novel coinbination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional detailed view of the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatical view of a circuit embodied in the invention.b
In the drawing 1() indicaties a fragmentary portion of a door which has a recess 11 formed therein for confinement of the casing 12 which casing is connected to the door through the medium of screw elements 13. This casing has a face plate 14 provided with an opening 15 through which projects the head 16 of the latch bolt 17 hereinafter more fully set forth.
A door jam is fragmentarily illustrated at 18 and this door jam has formed in its edge 19 a recess 20 which receives the head 16. Formed in this edge is a recess 21 for confinement of the keeper plate 22, said keeper plate being connected to the door jam through the medium of screw elements. 23.

This connecting link 84 is pivotally connected to the wall 24 through the medium of a pintle 35 and pivotal movement of the connecting link is limited through the medium of stop pins 36 in the direction toward the inner end portion of the casing 11. In Fig. 2 I have shown a preferred electric circuit and in this electric circuit 37 indicates a suitable source of electric energy. The corresponding sides of the coils 27 and 28 are connected in circuitwith this electric energy through the medium of conductors 38. One side 39 of the source of electric energy is connected toa spaced Contact 40 through the medium of conductors l41. The other side of the coils.27 and 28 are connected to contact lingers 42 through the medium of conductors 43, said contact fingers being adapted alternately to engage the contacts 40 whereby to alternately energize the coils 27 and 28.
The coils may be also energized from wit-hout t-he room and this is accomplished by providing a common key lock44 which includes a Contact linger 45 adapted to alternately contact with contact elements 4G. These cont-act elements are connected in circuit with the source of electrical energy and the coils 27 and 28 by conductors 47.
The operation is as follows:
Vhen the coil 27 is energized the solenoid 30 will be caused to move relatively to the coil 27 and during this movement, movement to the solenoid 29 is imparted simultaneously with the movement of the solenoid 30 whereby to move the latch head from engagement in the keeper plate. To energize the coil 27 the contact linger 42 of the contact fingers 42 is moved into Contact with itsrespective contact 40 to connect the coil 27 in circuit with the source of electric energy.
When the coil 28 is energized, at which time the coil 27 is de-energized, the solenoid 29 will be moved relative to the coil 28 and ill? move the latch head 16 in latch position with respect to the keeper plate of the door jam. The energizing of the coil is accomplished by moving the contact finger 42 of the contact fingers 42, into contact with its respective contacts 40. From this it will be seen that the coil 27 is utilized for moving the solenoid 29 to disengage the latch head 16 from the keeper plate and that the coil 28 is utilized for moving the solenoid 29 to move the latch head 16 in latched position with respect to the keeper plate.
It is intended that the switch which comprises the contacts 4() and contact fingers 42 be arranged in a convenient place withinthe room with which the door is associated.
Then it is desired to operate the latch bolt from withoutgthe room, the usual key (not shown) is inserted'in the key hole of thelock 44 yand when the barrel of thelock 44 is located the finger 45 will be moved into engagement with the contact element 46 in the path of its movement and energize the coil with which it is connected in circuit.
` F rom this it will be seen that the coil may berenergized by'a switch located outside of the room whereby to move the latch bolt from and into latched position with respect to its keeper plate.V

, .The invention having been set forth, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:` v

In combination, a keeper plate, two members movable relatively toY each other, pivotally supported means for operative con'- nection to. corresponding end portions of said members, one of said members being adapted for latched engagement` with the keeper plate, means forlnoving said me1n-` bers, and remote means for controlling 0peration of said moving means.
2. In combination, a keeper plate, two members movable relatively toeach other, one of said members being adapted for latched engagement with the keeper plate, a pivotally"` supported member having opera tive connection with corresponding end portions of said members,electrically controlled elements for moving said member, and circuit making means for yclosing the electric circuit alternately to said moving means.
3. InV combination, a casing including a face plate having an opening formed therein, magnetic elements arranged within thecas ing in parallel relation with respect to each other, solenoid cores operable by said ele-` ments and movable relatively to each other, a latch head formed on one ofsaid solenoid cores and adapted to project through the opening, a link pivotally connected to the casing, a slot and pin connection between the corresponding end portions of the sole noid cores and at link member, and a cir-V cuit breaker for controlling the circuitalter nately to said magnetic elements.
