POODLE-IDOG DOLL.

Application filed June 24, 1926. Serial No. 118,292.

This invention relates to the class of toys or dolls, and has especial reference to inflated and inflatable toys or dolls.

An object of the present invention is the production of a toy or doll of the inflated or inflatable type, of dual character, in that it may be made to stand or sit, in other words, a standing or sitting toy or doll.

Another object of the invention is the production of an inflatable toy or doll having an outer structure or covering simulating some naturalobject such as a poodle dog,"or

' any'other natural object.

Another object of the invent-ion is an inflatable toy or doll with a novel device whereby the toy or doll may be inflated and deflated; and the device being enclosed in one of the appendages of the toy or doll.

Another object of the invention is an'inflat-able doll which is buoyant, and which will be maintained upright while afloat.

With the foregoing, other objects of the invention will appear from the embodiment of the invention which by way of example is described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a view of the toy or doll em bodying the present invention, as the standing toy or doll.

Broadly, the toy or doll of the present invention consists of an outer structure or covering 10, flexible and therefore, capable of being inflated, in whole or in part, means 11 in the form of bladder of rubber for inflatingand deflating the outer structurev in simulation'of some natural object/,and in the present instance simulates a poodle dog.

By referring to Fig. 4 it will be apparent that the upper end of each member 18 is rounded asat 20. Under this construction and arrangement the leg sections 15 will be maintained so that the toy or doll can be made to stand on the leg section as an upright toy or doll. Furthermore, by releasing some of the air from the bladder- 11 the rear leg sections, for instance, may be folded beneath the body section 13, as shown most clearly in Figs. 2 and 5 so that the toy or doll willbe in condition to be in fact a sitting toy or doll. Therefore pravision is made by virtue of which the toy or dollwill be of dual character. When the doll is inflated it will be buoyant in water, and due to the fact that each of the leg sections 11 contains the balsa'member 18, the doll will be maintained upright while afloat. This is desirable because a youngster in playing with the doll may take thesame in the water when wading, and may depend upon the doll to act as a life preserver, since they doll is capable of easily sustaining a youngster, under one hundred pounds, afloat.

In accordance with another feature of applicants invention the means 12 for inflatbe apparent that, the device 12 includes a hollow rubber ball or body 21 having a check valve 22 at one end in comn'iunication with the interior of the body 21, and control valve 23 at the opposite end, operatively arranged, in communication with the interior of the bodyh21. The check valve 22 has connected thereto a tubular member 21 which is in communication with the interior of the bladder 11. Said check valve 22 includes a seat 25, a ball 26 and a cage 27 for the ball.

When the bladder 11 isinflated the ball 26 is maintained against the seat as shown in Fig. 6, and is capable of being moved off of the seat to allow the introduction of air into the bladder 11. The control valve 23 includes a threaded tubular member 28, which receivesa member 29. The member 29 is adapted for threading engagement with the tubular member 2850 as to be longitudinally movable with respect thereto. The member 29 has a valve member 30 on the inner end thereot which coacts with a seat 31 on a member 32 l'iaving a passage 33. The member 29 has a passage 34 and a hole 35 communicating with the passage 34. hen the member 30 is on the seat 31, air will be prevented from escaping even though the ball 26 is away from the seat 25. \Vhen the member 30 is off of the seat 31 air will be admitted to the body 21, and by repeatedly collapsing and allowing the body to till, air will be forced into the bladder 11. In this way the bladder will be inflated, and as a consequence the body section 13 and head section 14 of the outer structure or covering 10 will be inflated. The pressure within. the bladder 11 will maintain the ball 26 on its seat 25 to keep the air in the bladder 11. When it is desired to deflate the bladder 11, the valve member 30 is moved oil of its seat 31, and the body 21 is partly compressed. The device 12 will be disposed vertically with the check valve 22 lowermost, and by partly collapsing the body 21 with one hand, the ball 26 will be caused to move away from its seat 25, and due to the fact that the member 30 is oil otits seat 31 air will be allowed to escape from the bladder 11. It will. therefore be obvious that the device 12 serves for inflating and deflating the bladder 11. If desired apersonmay inflate the bladder 11 by blowing air through the member 29.

I claimf 1. A doll comprising an inflatable outer structure having characteri tics simulating a 2. An inflatable doll comprising an inflatable outer structure havin characterb istics simulating a natural ob ect, said outer structure including a body section, a head section, leg sections, and a tail section; a rigid member in each of the leg sections and secured therein, an inflatable bladder arranged within the body section and extending into the head section, and an air compressing and air releasing device in the tail section, said device communicating with the bladder, said device operative for inflating and deflating the bladder.

A doll comprising an outer flexible inflatable covering having characteristics simulating a natural object,said covering including a body section, and hollow leg sections opening into the body section, an inflatable bladder extending into the body section, a device communicating with the bladder and operative for inflating'and deflating the bladder, a stifl'ening member in each of said leg sections, the inner ends of said stiflh ening members respectively extending normally into said body section and capable of distending portions of said bladder to coact therewith when the bladder is inflated, said inner ends and portions of said bladder in reaction maintaining the leg sections disposed with respect to the body section so as to obtain a standing doll.

A doll comprising an outer flexible inflatable covering having characteristics simulating a natural object, said covering including a body section, and hollow leg sections opening into the body section, an inflatable bladder extending into the body section, a device communicating with the bladder and operative for inflating and deflating the bladder, a stiffening member in each of said leg sections, the inner ends of said stiffening members respectively extending normally intosa-id body section and capable of dis-' tending portions of said bladder to coact' therewith when the bladder is inflated, said inner ends and portions of said bladder in coaction maintaining the leg sections disposed with respect to the body section so as to obtain a standing doll, said device operative to partly deflate said bladder, the bladiii) section, an inflate-d elastic body extending into said body section of the covering, and a stiflening member in each of said leg sections, the inner ends of said stifiening members respectively extending normally into said body section so as to disten-d portions of said inflated elastic body to coact therewith,
