LIQUID-FUEL BURNER.

My invention is directed to improvements in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts of a liquid fuel burner of the gravity feed type, with the objects in view of providing a portable burner which will be very simple, safe and effective and which will produce a clean flame with a maximum heat for the fuel consumed.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents the burner in side elevation.
Fig. 2 represents the burner in vertical central section.
The burner, generally speaking, comprises a hollow casing with its gravity liquid fuel feed pipe and its gas escape flame pipe and a priming base forming a support for the said casing.
The hollow casing has exteriorly convexed top and bottom walls 1 and 2 forming a combined liquid fuel and gas chamber 3. This hollow casing is provided with an exterior annular flange l which is shaped to.
form an annular drip basin 5.
A. hollow supporting base 6 is provided with inner and outer uprising annular flanges 7 and 8 forming between them an annular priming basin 9. A drain pipe 10 communicates with the priming basin 9 a short distance above the bottom of the basin so as to permit the basin to be filled to a predetermined point with the priming liquid and prevent a dangerous oversupply of the priming liquid remaining in the basin.
The hollow casing rests upon the inner annular flange 7 of the base and the supporting upper edge of said flange is serrated or scolloped as shown at 11 to provide spaces for the passage of air between the flange and bottom of the casing.
The chamber 3 in the hollow casing is supplied by gravity with the liquid fuel through a pipe 12 which leads from any suitable source of supply, not shown herein, through a vertical portion, upwardly and centrally, into the bottom of said chamber.
A gas burner pipe 13 leads upwardly from the top of the chamber 3 and its nozzle 14 is directed downwardly toward the convex top of the hollow casing for the double purpose of generating the gas in the chamber and as a heating medium. A hollow extension 15 of the gas burner pipe 13 profree flow said shield being arranged in position to receive the direct impact of the flame from the nozzle 14 and thereby prevent the undue heating of the top of the hollow casing. An ear 18 is struck up from the periphery of the shield 16 in position to direct the flame issuing from the nozzle 14L insuch a direction as to prevent the flame from curving back onto the, nozzle, This permits" a of air to come in contact with the gas as it issues from the nozzle, thereby preventing the accumulation vof carbon or other refuse thereon which would interfere with the true direction of the flame.
' It will be understood that-the hollow e);- tension 15 of the gas burner pipe 13 forms a pocket in the upper part of the chamber 3, I thereby preventing the chamber from filling up with the liquid fuel and the enlarged. bore of this extension prevents the accumulation, of carbon or other possible interference with the free fiow of the gas from the chamber into the burnerpipe l3.
It is evident that various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence, I do not wish to be limited to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but

A gravity fed liquid fuel burner comprising, a hollow casing forming a combined liquid fuel and gas chamber, a liquid fuel feed pipe opening into the bottom of the chamber, a gas burner pipe leading from the top of the chamber and having its nozzle directed downwardly toward said casing, and a hollow extension for the gas burner pipe projecting downwardly a predetermined distance into the chamber, the bore of said extension being larger than the bore of the gas burner pipe. A gravity fed liquid fuel burner comprising, a hollow casing having convex top and bottom walls forming a combined liquid fuel and gas chamber, a liquid fuel feed pipe opening into the bottom of the chamber, a gas burner pipe leading from the top of the chamber and having 1ts nozzle directed downwardly toward said casing, and a hollow extension for the gas burner pipe projecting downwardly a predetermined distance into the chamber, the bore of said extension being larger than the bore of the gas burner pipe.

A gravity fed liquid fuel burner comprising, a hollow casing having convex top and bottom walls forming a combined liquid fuel and gas chamber, a liquid fuel feed pipe opening into the bottom of the chamber, a gas burner pipe leading from the top of the chamber and having its nozzle directed downwardly toward said casing, a convex flame spreading shield spaced from the top wall of the casing, and a flame directing element uprising from said shield, said gas burner pipe having a hollow extension projecting downwardly a predetermined distance into the chamber, the bore of said extension being larger than the bore of the gas burner pipe.

A gravity fed liquid fuel burner comprising, a hollow casing having convex top and bottom walls forming a combined. liquid fuel and gas chamber, a base having inner and outer uprising annular flanges forming an' annular priming basin, the inner annular flange acting as a support for said hollow casing, the top edge of said inner flange being shaped to provide air spaces between it and the bottom of the casing, and suitable liquid fuel feed and gas burner pipes for said casing, the gas burner pipe having a nozzle directed downwardly toward said casing.

A gravity fed liquid fuel burner comprising, a hollow casing having convex top and bottom walls forming a combined liquid fuel and gas chamber, said casing having an annular exterior flange forming a drip basin, a base having inner and outer uprlsing annu lar flanges forming an annular priming basin, the inner annular flange acting as a sup-
