lily invention relates to ii'nproveinents in 'fences and particularly to such as involve interconnected wire strands. f

Primarily, the invention contemplates a novel means for connecting the wire to a fence post, the said wire connecting means being relatively adjustable on the post to permit ready usepto engage wire sheets of varying widths.

Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable post carried wire engaging` member which will be held in a desired position on the post .by the engagement of the wire therewith.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become more apparent as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which illustrate what I now regard as a preferred embodiment of the invention. The variousv features of novelty are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this specification. lt is to be understood, however, that "I do not intend to limit myself to the precise structure illustrated and described herein, as various changes and modii'ications thereof will iinmediately suggest themselves to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.

Referring specifically to the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate like parte in all views, numeral 5 denotes a fence post which may be made of any material. I preferably use an iron post of cir* cular form, the lower end of which is pointed indicated at 6 while the upper end is somewhat enlarged and llattened as indicated at 7,--this latter for convenience in driving the pointed end 6 into the ground.

more particularly to Figures 2 and 3 it is noted that each lug 8 provided witha re-` cess 9 opening at one side edge. yll"i.gii'.res l and 3 clearly `indicate that the mouth or opening of eacllre css 9 is a trie wider than the diameter of the post 5, thus'to permit the entry of the pest into the recess. Once the post has been engaged in the lug recesses 9 it is obvious that by swinging the lugs in the direction of the axis of the post 5 the corners or edges of the recess mouth will engage the post to prevent the lugs from slipping off the same. Also the top and bottom edges of the lug recesses bind against the post to prevent the lugs 8 from slipping longitudinally thereon.

The extended part of each lug 8 is formed with a fence wire engaging cross groove or hook l0 to receive the top and bottom hori :rental wire strands 11 as aforesaid. The wire of the fence is stretched so that it thereby supplies the necessary tension to hold the top and bottom portions of the lug` recesses in binding engagement with the post 5 to prevent slipping of the lugs and also to keep the lugs and post assembled.

From the foregoing description read in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be clear that my lugs will be adjustable for any width of wire sheet. The use of said lugs permit of the rapid installation of a temporary fence which will be just as satisfactory as could be possibly desired. rllhe same applies as to a permanent fence.- The form of wire here illust-rated involves the horizontal strands 11 as aforesaid which are connected by vertical strands 12. lt is, of course, obvious that any other form of wire sheet could be availed of in place of the particular variety referred to and also that other fencing material could be availed of in place of wire within the scope of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. The combination with a fence post and fence; of a member-having a post receiving recess relatively larger 'than one cross sectionalldimension of said'post whereby to loosely receive the same, and fence supporting means carried by said member whereby the weight of a fence will rock said member to bind the edges rof said recess to en-V gage said post to hold the member in a set position.

2. The. combination with a fence post; of a pair or spaced lugs having post engaging portions for adjnstably mounting the lugs on the post, saidlugs having fencing material engaging portions, and' fencing inate rial engaging` said last named portions, the
