J. A BOLTON DOLL Filed July 10; 1926 ATT(4)RYNEY v Patented May 24 1927'.
JAMES A. BOLTON, or sAYvI'LLE-, 1\TEw'YoitK.- 1 f DOLL.
Application filed July 10, 1926. Serial No. 121,570.
This invention relates generally to an im- .provement in dolls.
resilient walls and provided with a duct leading to and terminating in an open end at the lips of the figure. With this construction the act of kissing can be closelyslmulated by compressing the chamber, then in pressing the lips of the doll to a soft surface, such as the cheek of a child, then in portion 5 is provided with an air chamber 6 Cal ' and provided with-a duct 7 leading up-c releasing pressure on the container, and then in removing the lips of the doll from the yielding surface, whereupon air will rush into the opening between the lips of the doll and produce a sibilant sound simulating the.
sound of a kiss. a
Other features of the invention Wlll be hereinafter referred to.
V In the drawings, .inwhich a preferred embodiment of the invention has been selectr device is simple and includes the whollyv 1 natural act of exerting pressure on the torso ed for illustration 1 I Figure 1 shows a view in front elevation .of a portion of a doll embodying the invention' Figure 2 is a view in transverse vertical section of the parts shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings for a more detaileddescription of the invention, a doll is shown in which a relatively flexible body formed of'resilient material, such as rubber,
.wardly from one end of the bag or chamber 6 and terminating inan open end 8 at a passage .or port of the figure.
9 formed between the lips With the construction described, by compressing the bodyportion 5 of the doll so as to correspondingly compress the air cham her 6, as indicated in dotted lines in Figure 2 of the drawings, and thenapplying the lips of the figure to a yielding surface 10, such as the cheek of a child,'a partial vacuumais established in the air chamber .6 release of pressure thereon.
If, under this condition of a partial vacuumobtaining in the chamber 6,,the lips of the doll are removed from the surface 10,
asibilant noise is produced which simulates upon the the noise made in the act of kissing.
on" the cheek. of a child 7 is particularly pleas- 'ing to the fancy of a child and the doll,
thus constructed, provides anattractive and pleasing plaything;
It will be seen that 1n the mechanical, operber or: bag'6 which is restored to-its normal condition and shape by the spring or elastic tension in the wall members thereof.
, This simulation of the act of imprinting a kiss I a assume;
'60 ation of the device,-the sibilant'noise referred to is produced by, the releaseof the partial .vacuum and the rush of atmosphere through the port 9 intorthe duct '7 and the air chain 7 I l/Vhile' I have shown and described anair container or bulb 6 formed of rubber or similar flexible and resilient material, it will be clearthat other meansmay be used for the purpose of producing the partial vacuum if i portion of the doll in a manner that a child wouldinst inctivelydo. I
the desired'sibilant noise or used in bringing about the momentary rush It is well known that toy dolls Jequippedwith means for causingthem to vsimulate talking nolses 'or to walk or produce crymg noises have proven'to be fascinating play things for'the' average child. "Actual experience has demonstrated that a doll so cons r structed and equip'pedas to betermedby a Q i child a kissing doll has proven also -'to.be a I toy of a fascinating andattractive character and to appeal very strongly tothe fancy of children and "in some degree grownups.
Y What Iclaim i's':--
1. In an osculating dollpanorifice formed between the lips of thedoll, the outer extremities .of the orifice being flush with the lips of the dolhmeans for producing a partialvacuum in said orifice, whereby following the actuation ofthe vacuum. producing.
means and the application of the lips of the loo doll to a yieldingsurface/thewithdrawal of the lips ofthe doll from contact with the yieldingsurface will be accompanied by a sound simulating the sound of a kiss.
2.1 Ina kissing doll, acompressibleair chamber formed ofresilientfmaterial 'mounted within the od 51% the don, the
head of-the doll being provided with an the air chamber and the orifice whereby fol- "lowing compression ofzbhe-iaimchamber and application of the lips-of'the doll to a yielding surface the release of compression onthe" chamber and the Withdrawal of the lips of the doll 'ifromfthe yielding ui-{face {Will be accompanied by a sound simulating the i sound of a kiss. v
