ASSIGNOR T0 KALMAN STEEL COMPANY,
OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
sonnnn CHAIR.
Application filed. January 3, 1927. Serial No. 158,624.
My invention relates to concrete construction accessories, and particularly toa chair adapted to support a screedor surface-determining member. 7
One of the objects'of my invention is to provide a screed chair.- of: extremely ight and economical skeleton construction,
adapted for use in supporting a screedwith the purpose of allowing the chair toremain A device of this character a construction that 'the' in the concrete. should be, of such concrete flows through and around it, in order toavoid lines of cleavage, economical construction that it may be allowed to remain in the "concrete as a part thereof.
A further object is to provide a. structure of the character described which may be folded into very small compass adapting it for shipment without bulkiness in handling.
The lllVQIliilOII will be more readily under-'.
stood by reference to drawings, in which:
Fig. l is a side elevation showing a pair of my improved skeleton screed chairs in operative position;
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a plan view,and
Fig. 4; is an enlarged side view showing the device in folded form.
A screed or levelling bar isiudicated at A, the bar being intended to serve as a means for levelling and fixing the height of the upper surface of the finished concrete, ing intended to be removed after such levelling has been accomplished. The bar is supported in a seat 10 provided in the transverse member 11,01. an inverted U-shaped support, preferably composed of wire. The legs. 12. of. the support terminate in feet, 13 that rest on the form indicated at B.
A pair of braces are provided. each consisting of a LE-shaped or V shaped section of wire, 14: in the ends of which eyes 15 are the accompanying formed. which embrace the legs, 12 in such manner that the braces are permitted pivotal movement; that is, they are enabled to swing into the operative position shown in Figs. 1 to 3, or into the folded position shown in Fig. l. WVhen in operative position; nails or staples, 16, are applied at the angles of the brace for fastening them to theform. Prefand of such or difficulty and be;
'therearound.
erably the parts will be so constructed that the legs occupy a slightly inclined position, as shown; -This insures that a vertical line Y through the center of gravity will fall between the supports and result in a stable structureeven without the fastening nails. In orderto prevent upward movement of the braces I may flatten the wire composing the legs at a point above the upper eye, thus forming laterally projecting lugs, 17
. Devices such as shown areof very simple and economical construction, may be quickly and easily applied and may be shipped without .occupying undue space.
Obviously modifications 'may be made in the construction here disclosed without departing from the spirit of my invention, and
I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination an inverted U-shapcd' support having a seat in itsupper end and a U-shaped brace p1voted to one leg of said PATENT- OFFICE.
supportand adapted to occupy a position at f right angles thereto.
2. In a screed chair, the combination of a support comprising a pair of legs having a connecting top member providing a seat for 'a bar, and a U-shaped lateral brace, pivoted to one leg of the support.
3. In a screed chair, the combination of an inverted U-shaped wire member having a seat forn'ied in the member connecting the legs thereof and a. U-shaped wire brace pivoted to one of the legs of said wire member with capacity for swinging movement 41-. In a screed chair, the combination of an inverted U-shapcd support and a pair of U-shaped brace members pivoted to the legs of said support andadapted to occupy positions at right angles to the support and to be swung into folded position relative to said support. r a
5. In combination. an inverted U-shaped support composed of wire. and providing a seat for a screed, and a pair of wire braces. each pivoted at two points to a leg of said support and adapted to be swung into operative and folded positions. 7 p v In testimony where I have afiixed my signature.
WILLIAM E. WHITE.
