MATCH-BOX HOLDER OR THE LIKE.
Application filed September 16, 1925.
litany other objects and advanof the construction herein shown and des ribed will be obvious to those skilled in the art from the disclosures herein given.
"" this end my invention consists in the yn() novel construe-tion7 arrangement and conn biinitiou of parts herein shov-.f'n and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
ln the drawings7 wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding` parts: A Fig. 'l is a perspective view showing` front face of my improved device:
Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating rear thereof;
i is a sectional view taken ou line 3 3 of Fie'. il is a on line u is a on line the the
i substanl; sectional view taken #ft-fi of Fig. 3; sectional view taken Vi-ii of l La'. (i is a sectional view taken on line (5-6 of Fig. d;
7 is a plan view of a sheet metal io blank before forming up to con'iplete the holder; and
Fig'. 8 is a view of the door 6 before application to the coin receptacle.
Referring tothe drawings, my improved device consists of the back portion 1 projected upwardly from a base plate or box supi'iort 2, being' flanges or side wings on the back 1 preferably sulistantially the width of the match bor; or the like to be held. its shown, a coin receptacli.; formed below the base or support 2, the saine prefcral'ily having` an inclined front face i provided with the coin slot 5. The coms dcposited into the receptacle tl'irouo'h the slot 5 are removable through the back wall upon opening the door 6.
substan sulrstan-A serial No. 56,685.
lVhile the device may be made in various ways, l have illustrrted a very int-.1pc re construction in which metal stan'ipingg are employed which may bo litlioggrai d or otherwise decorated bef 'i' blankinnl out and bending up in ouipieted forni. lit/ofen ring' to Fig'. 7, the bla-nk shown cons' s of the `back portion l, bottotn portion 2' and flanges o. lllllien the blank folded up, it is folded along the lines 7W? and 9. is shown, the bottoni portion severed from the sidel wings indicated at 8.
The
portion fl. the bottom portion 12 and a portion 11i which folded up at the bach.
These are arranged to be folded as at 1l, 13 and 15. Generally it is preferred to make the portions i and 12 slightly wider than the part 2 so that the same may ei;- tend overthe portions 10 and down to provide a finish. The several portions are secured together in any satisfactory manner, a simple` construction consisting in the tongues 1T and cooperating` slots 18. 0bviously riveting, soldering or the like would be as satisfactory, although more expensive.
ln setting up the device, the wingsor flanges 3 are bent forward and the box support portion 2 is bent forwardly and thence downwardly and under and up at the back and the tongues 17 turned in at the slots 18. The inclined front face d gives prominence to theslot- 5, and adds to the appearance.
n. simple door construction is shown in the figures in which the door 6 is provided with tongues 2O arranged to engage in slots 19 in the sides 3. Tongues or tabs 21 formed on the back and engaging the door 6 maintain the si me in place at the top. Obviously the slide or door i may be raised to permit removal of the coins as desired. rlhe flange portion 14- turned up at the back prevents any coins from slipping` out under the door and also improves the finish.
rllie matches or other commodities may be placed on the portion Q and piled up between the fianges f5 in front of the back portion 1 the front being` open. fr customer desiring a bo); of matches or other article may remove the same5 depositing his coin, for example,
a penny, in the slot 5. The time of a clerk is saved in handing,l a customer a penny product, the customer is hotter Satisfied than to have to nel; Vfor a pennye worth ot matches er the lilie. 'Vhile, ot couree, there may he Some instances in which the customer lails to deposit the coin tor pavement, yet it has; heen found in practice that this is a rare oeourrence, und the increased sales more than malte up 'tor the loss. The device may he set on the counter or hung` on the wall. ll'hile the rapaces on the liront ot the haci; l and on the inside or outside ot the wings or tace of the portion -l may he utilized tor adveii'isingl the merchandise Carried therehy, it is obvious that this same space or portions thereoii may he employed in udvertising other (commodities. In other worde, a manufacturer or distributor' oit the product n'iay furnish the retail dealer with the device with his own advertisement thereon as an advertising mediun'i. "Vhile the device, ot course, min'ht he of Cast metal such as aluminum or the like, hy making` the saine ot' stampings it is poesible to lithograph the sheets in the itat and Stamp ont the devices, after which they may he readily assenihled or may he shipped in the tiet and assemhled hy the dealer or user.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modiiieations may he made in the same Without departing from the spirit oli' my invention, hence l do not wish to he understood as limitingg,- myeeit to the exact form, construction, arrangenient and Combination of parts herein Shown and described or uses mentioned.
TWhat l claim ae new and desire to secure hy Letters .Patent is:
i. AS a new article ot manufacture, a match hoz; container ioimed trom a single piece oli material and includimbil a back portion, side portions and iront tace ot the container, :ind side portions and i'ioor of a coin receptacle positioned beneath said container, the side portions oit the container having elots, and tongues termed on the iront face et the container and the tioor of the coin receptacle tor cooperation with said slots,
As a new article oi manuiacture, a match box container formed from a single 1piece ot.' material and including a haelt portion, side portions and trent face ol the container, and sid portions and floor ot a coin receptacle positioned beneath said container, means dctachahly connecting the iront face ot the container with the side portions thereof, and means detaehahly Connecting the tioor ol the coin receptacle with the side -portions ot' the container.
lin testimony whereof, I have hereunto igned my name.
