- Y yLooaE-PownEa CONTAINER.
My invention relates to aV container for ,loose powder and vadapted to be embodied for example in a vanity case or in a con-v y y yof the invention.
tainer adapted for holding other; materials in the form of a loose powder. The mvention particularly relates to that form of wder container in which the'k powder isv Vhgld about a member having ajcentr'al opening to which powder may be directedl by the depression of a diaphragm normally closing The general object of my invention is to provide a loose powder container'includlng a member having an opening tb afford access to the powder and in which the diaphragm forming a closure of said opening lis pr0.-
vided in a Simp e manner whereby the nurnber of parts c nstituting Athe contalner 1s greatly reduced and the construct1on= greatly simplified. The invention also has f or an object to provide a container of the indicated characterf in *which the powder will be d1- rected unfailingly to the area of the diaphragm at the opening referred to as wellv as to provide novel means to prevent cakingfo'fuy the material in the container.
The nature of my invention, its distinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompany-f` ingy drawin s forminga part of this speci'- ication, it eing understoodv that the drawgs are merely illustrative ofone example Figurel is a vertical section of a loose powder container embodyingmy invention; Figure 2,is a plan view thereof. In carring out my inventionA a box bodyv designate generally by the numeral 10 lsf provided having a bottom 11 and a side ange 12. In practice, Athe jup off f the sidediange 12 is directed aterallyifin'- ward as at 13. 4In-association with theconstainer body 10 I'provide a powdersretaining element 14 in the form of acoverhaving. a
central opening 1 5l at.which the powder` A held in the container may be acceible. The central opening 15 is below thetop of the element 14 an is convergent toward said of whic is an annular 16 at the ulpler ve y ec laterally outward and the bottom of' said rlltlemelnt o e e eiment 14 atv the top has apenllinrical zonel edgeof the body flange 12 and its inwardlyv directed annular portlon 13,
The bottom 11 for itsnmajor portionconstitutes a diaphragm 18 which is made somewhat concavoconvex, the inherent resiliency of the diaphragm 18 serving to effect 10 beneath the closure' element or cover element 14 so that the mass of powder isheld in annularform about the opening 15 and isheld from escaping by reason of the contact of the diaphragm 18 with the cover elefmentv 14 atthe edge portion 19. Itwill -be obvious that upon "pressure, being appliedto the diaphragm 18 atits upper surface,
said diaphragm will bedepressed, thereby serving to break the contact between Said diaphragm 18 and the edge portion 19 of v the cover element. 4Hence,va. shaki 0f the container will cause som'eof the powder` A to sift pastthe edge ,L19 to distribute itself' over the exposed central areaof the diaphragm'18 so that the wder at said exposed portion` onv the iaphragm will be readily accessible' throu h theI opening 15 to be `picked u-p byfa powder purilchamois, or the like, for example, or otherwise utilized.
AI providenovelmeans of reventing thel caking of Ethe powder A so t atfit may always be relied /upo to'siftto the opening v15 upon the depression of diaphragm 18.
Them for the purpose is 1n the form of 'an a tator r' 2O extending' about in the pow erlcontaimng compartment and of a size sutliciently la of the` latter. v Thus, affthe box` 10 will overcome' an tendency o` thgrp'owde'r A` to solidify'orc e. e bottom 11 has an annular corro' 21' within which the ring 20 is held, saldcorrugation thus constituting a strengthening of r than the annular a edge 19 to permit o the ring 20 movin -k aboutlthecontainer body 10 u n-ffthe Shavlight 'shakin tion loo
the bottom as well as lending resiliency to the diaphragm 18 and'- at the same time -Senvmg to limitzthe movement of therng 20. It is tobe observed that the described con.-4
struction/provides a container/madeof two ver 1 4, the only otherelement ieeceathatyis tosay, box body 10 and co involved in the constructionbeingrthe power stirring ring the advantage in employing which is apparent. It is to be observed also that the bottom 11 of the container body -forms the diaphragm 18 to close the opening 15, thereby avoiding` the employment .of a separate diaphragm for the purpose.
I- would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical the body being in the form of a diaphragm closing said opening, thecontainer outside of said opening and beneath the cover elei ing.
ment forming a compartment for powder andthe depression of the diaphragmserving to permit escape of the powder to the open- 2. A loose powder container comprising a body and a part forming a cover and pre' senting an opening, the body beneath the cover part forming the container for powder extending about said opening, the bottom of the'body constituting a diaphragm forming a closure for said opening and depressibleto permit powder to escape to the diaphragm at the opening.
3. A loose powder container comprising a body composed of a bottom and side flange, and an element forming a cover for `said body and resting on said ange, said covery element presenting an opening and the bottom of the body constituting a ldiaphragm in edge contact with the cover element at said opening.
4. A loose powder ,container comprising a body anda cover having an opening eX- posingthe bottom o f the body, saidbottomv at the central portion being in the form of a resilient diaphragm closing said openingy and depressible, the body beneath the cover element forming -a container for powderv which may escape upon the depression of the diaplira v l' Y 5. A pow er container comprising a body, a cover element having an approximately central opening, the bottom of the body forming a depressible diaphragm, the body beneath the container forming an annular powder compartment, and a ring loose in thefbody in said compartment to agitato the powder.
