UNITED STATES THEODORE DOSER, OF ST. ANTHONY, IOWA.
COLLAPSIBLE BOOST.
Application filed June 28,
This invention relates to what may be conveniently referred to as a collapsible roost, :the same being adapted for use in chicken houses, and having for its principal object to provide a structure of this kind which insures compactness and convenience of arrangement of parts, permitting the parts to be disposed in an entirely out-ofthe-way position when not in use.
Briefly, the invention has reference to a frame which is attached to one wall of the chicken house, there being a pair of endframes hingedly connected with the vertical uprights of the first named frames, and these constituting supports for an extensible roost structure which is hingedly connected to the first named frame so that it may be swung up in a collapsed position in an outof-the-way position.
Other features of the invention will become apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same Figure 1 is a top plan view of a structure constructed inaccordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same showing the parts set up for use,
Fig. 3 is a View showing the roost structure collapsed,
Fig. l is a perspective view of one of the supporting legs, and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one corner portion of one of the end frames.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the reference character 1 designates a substantially U-shaped frame which is fastened to the wall of the chicken house at any appropriate point. Secured by hinges 2 to the uprights of the frame 1 are roost structures 3. Each end frame comprises a downwardly inclined top bar 4, an upwardly inclined bottom bar 5, and a con necting vertically disposed bar 6. It will be noticed that the top bar extends outwardly beyond the bottom bar, and is hinged as at 7 to a supporting leg 8. The leg is held in operative position by a pivoted brace or link 9.
Referring to Fig. 4, it will be seen that the lower portion of the leg is apertured and the apertures therein are adapted to register with apertures formed in a foot bracket 10 true 0 1926. Serial no. 119,220.
having an inclined upstanding socket 11 into which the apertured end of the leg is fitted. A retaining pin is passed through the apertures when they are alined to hold the leg at the proper elevation. Also as shown in Fig 2, a resilient clip 12 is fastened to the bottom bar 5 in one of the end frames, and serves to hold the leg in the position shown in dotted lines when the device is to be swung out of the way. The roost struccomprises roost forming rods 13 of appropriate cross section which are connected together by lazy tong structures 14; in order to form an extensible structure. The entire structure is hingedly connected as at 15 to the uprights of the first named frame 1. This allows the entire structure 3 to be collapsed into the compact state represented in Fig. 3 and then to be swung up against the frame 1 and secured in that position by any suitable means.
Moreover, the end frames which constitute the supports may be swung upon the hinges b ck against the wall of the chicken house. The advantages and features of a construction of this kind are doubtless apparent from the foregoing description and drawings. Moreover, by considering the description and drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction and use of the device will be had. Therefore, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
lVhile the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a structure of the class described, a plurality of roost forming bars, lazy tongs connecting said bars together in an assembled relation, means for swingably connecting one end bar with asupport, a pair of end frames, means for swingably connecting said frames with the support, each frame comprising a top bar and a bottom bar, and a connecting bar, the ends of the roost formin bars resting upon the top bars of the end frames, and supporting legs for said end frames.
2. In a structure of the class described, an
attaching frame, a pair of end framesupwardly inclined bottom bar, and a vertically disposed connecting bar, the top bar extending beyond the outer end of the bottom bar, a leg hingedly connected to the extended ends, retaining means for the legs, a foldable roost structure embodying a plurality of roost forming bars connected together by lazy tong devices, said roost forming bars being adapted to rest upon the top bars of the end frames, and means hingedly connecting said roost structure with the attaching frames.
3. In combination, a vertical supporting structure, a pair of side frames, vertical pivot means for swingably mounting the side frames on the vertical supporting structure in spaced relation, and a roost structure including a plurality of bars, and a pair of lazy tong structures connected to the bars, said lazy tong structures being disposed in the same plane with each other, one of the end roost bars having associated therewith a horizontal pivot means connected to said vertical supports above the side frames.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
THEODORE DOSER.
