PAPER NOVELTY ARTICLE.

Application filed December 21, 1926.

This invention relates to improvements in paper novelty articles 01 manufactme, having for an object to provide a novel form of paper party favor mpocially pleasing to children, Wherein the usual crepe or similar paper covering is arranged about a tnbular favor container, while a childrens story booklet is arranged over a portion of the same and is secured in position upon the paper adjacent the tubular container by a transparent covering and retaining sheet, portions of which are joined by an adhesive to adjacent portions of the crepe paper, thus allowing the picture npon the exposed cover side of the booklet to be displayed through the sheet and at the saine time, positively prevent the booklet irom becoming displaced by either transverse or longitudinal movement.

It is also an object ofthe invention to provide a favor of the character described vvherein the novelties arranged within the tubular container are held against longitudinal displacement therefrom by crimping portions of the crepe paper covering and the transparent eovering sheet over the open opposite ends of said container, thereby constricting these openings and consequently, preventing longitudinal displacement of the novelties and similar devices from the container, yet allowing of free and uninterrupted passage out the extremities of the usual snapper therefrom in order that these extremities may be grasped in the hands of a gnest and pulled apart whereby to effect a slight explosion; the slightly greater stifl ness of the transparent covering sheet serving as an additional 1neans l'or retaining the constricted or crimped portions et the crepe paper over the open opposite ends of the tubular container.

ith the arrangement and securing ofithe crepe finishing covering paper 3 about the favor in the manner j nst described, a booklet, havin; fictimi printed tlierein, together with certain illustrations is arranged over the peripheral surface of the container 1 adjacent a portion of the crepe covering paper 3, in the manner as is indicated in the Fig ure l, whereupon a transparent covering and retaining sheet 4 is wrapped about the tubular container 1 over the adjacent portion of the crepe covering paper 2 and the exposed picture carrying cover 5 of the booklet 5, thereby snugly engaging said booklet about the adjacent portion of the peripheral surface of the container 1, as is shown in the Figure 1, following which the longitudinal side portions of the coveriug and retaining sheet 4 are joined hy a suitable adhesive to adjacent portions of the previously secured finishing and covering crepe paper Fretorably, the length of the booklet 5' is such as to approximately correspond to the length of the tnbular or hollow cylindrical container 1, thus bringing the opposite extrcmities of said booklet to positions approximately ad jacent the opposite extremities of the tubular container 1, as is well illustrated in the Figure 3, so that with subsequent treatment of the transparent covering and retaining sheet 4, said boolzlet Wlll be provided with a means for positivel 7 preventing longitudinal shi:tting movement of the saine with respect to the container 1, in the manner hereinatter more fully described.

VVith snug arrangement of the transparent covering and retaining sheet l over the picture carrying story booklet 5, it Will be appreciated that the picture 5 upon the exposed cover side of the bool:let will be clearly displayed through said transparent sheet and by consequence, Will serve to provide a noveltyespecially pleasing to children and further, a novelty possessing material commercial n1erit in that because 01' the exposure of the picture carrying cover of the story booklet 5, the deviceor rather the novelty is renderedself selling, inasmuch as it needs no explanationas tothe contents ot-thebooklet 5 due to the fact that said booklet, together with the manne printed or otherwise presented thereupon and the picture carrying cover Will be clearly visible to a prospective purchaser.

lVith a VllBW toward providing the novclty with additional means for preventing displacement of the booklet 5 with respect to the tubular container 1, as by longitudinal shifting movement, the extremities of the covering paper 2 together with the covering and finishingcrepe paper 3 and the extremities of the transparent covcring and retaining sheet 4 are crimped inwardly and at abrupt angles with respect to the open op po site extremities of the tubular container 1, as'is shown. in the Figure 3, thereby partially closing said open opposite extremities of the container 1 and by such eonstriction thereof, aflording a means which will not only serve =to definitel y and positiveiy locate the various shoots with respect to each other, but also, to prevent longitudinal displacement of the novelties or other-deviees contained within the container 1. At the same time, it Will be understood that by such partial closure of the open opposite ends of the tubular container 1, the extremities of the usual snapping device 6 arranged or passed longitudinally through the container 1 Wlll not be interfered with in any manner whatsoever, thus per1nitting of their arrangement without and lieyond the opposite ends of the tubular container 1 in order thatthe snappingdevice may be broken and thus exploded during o 'ieninget the faVo1'.

1*:urtheranore, it is to be noted in this connection that because ot the arrangement oF the opposite extrernities of the booklet at points approximately adjacent to the opposite extremities of adjacent portions of the tubular container 1, the crimped portion of the extremities et the transparent covering and retaining sheet 4: will be inturned abruptly or sharply over said opposite cxtremities of the booklet 5 as is indicated by the numeral 7, therebycreating adjacent these opposite extremities of the booklet, an efficient abutment means which Wlll serve to positively prevent any material longitudinal shifting movement of the booklet 5 with respect to the container 1.

To retain the transparent covering and retaining sheet et in its snugly wrapped position about the tubular container 1 and the finishing crepe paper 3, the longitudinal sidc portions ol said sheet 4 are joined by a suitable adhesive 8 to adjacent parts of the covering paper 3, as is shown in the Figure 3 and additionally, if desired, the opposite extremities or ends of the covering sheet may be for1ned With a series of -slits 9 so that with adhesive securing of said covering sheet together with the crimping of the extended opposite portions of the same over the open opposite ends of the container 1, said slit portions may be spread so as to provide the covering sheet with a fanciful and orna mental ringe, designated for convenience herein by the nu1neral 10, this fringe corresponding to the usual finishing fringe or similar ornamentation l'or1ned upon the op posite extremities of the-crepe covering and finishing paper as at 11.

ldanifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of my claims, I consideuwithin the spiritof my invention.

I claiin:

1.'I11 combination with a party favor including a tubular container and a corering and finishing paper wrapped thereabout having the opposite ends extended beyond the onde of the container, a booklet embracingly engaged over a portion of the paper adjacent the container, and a transparent covering and retaining sheet wrapped completely about and over said booklet and said covering and finishing paper, the opposite longitudinal sides of said transparent sheet being joinecl by an adhesive to adjacent portions of the covering and finishing paper.

2. In co1nbination with a party favor including a tubular container and a covering and finishing paper wrapped thereabout having the opposite ends of the same extended beyond the ends of the container, a booklet embracingly engaged over a portion of the paper adjacent the container, and a,

transparent covering and retaining shoot wrapped over and about the booklet and a portion of the eovering and finishing paper, the extremities of said transparent covering and retaining sheet being extended for distances beyond the opposite end of the tubular container, and said extremities o:f the transparent shoot and the coverin and finishing paper being crimped inward y with respect to the open opposite extremities 01 the container.

3. In combination with a party favor, inciuding a tubular container and a covering and finishing paper wrapped thereabout, a. booklet embracingly engaged over a portion of the paper adjacent the container, and a transparent covering and retaining sheet wrapped about and over said booklet and said covering and finishing paper and joined to portions of the latter, the opposite extremities of said transparent sheet being crimped inwardly and abruptly over the opposite extremities of the booklet and partially elosing open opposite extrelnities of said container.

In combination with a party favor including a tubular container and a covering and finishing paper wrapped thereabout having its opposite ends extended beyond the ends of the container, a booklet embracingly engaged over a portion of the paper adjacent the container, and a transparent covering and retaining shoot Wrapped about and over the booklet and the finishing and covering papers, the opposite extremit1es of said booklet being arranged in proximity to the opposite extremities of the container, and the extremities of the transparent sheet extending beyond the opposite ends of said booklet and container and being orimped inwardly over said opposite ends of the booklet and the container together with the covering and finishing paper whereby to secure said booklet against longitudinal shifting movement upon the container and to partially close the open opposite extremitics of said container.
