TOILET FLUSHING MEANS.

Application filed November 9, 1925. Serial No. 67,732.

The present invention relates to improvements in deodorizing means for lavatories and the like, and its particular object is to arrange a deodorizing agent in such a manner that the same is periodically moistened for releasing its odor. It is particularly proposed to ntilize for this purpose the flushing device associated with a toilet, which generally includes auxiliary neans for 'efilling the bowl after eachflushing' The water used for refilling the bowl is caused to pass the deodorant to noisten the rame for releasig its odor and to also carry along certain cleaning agents usually contained in deodorants for maintaining the bowl in a clean condition.

WVhile I have shown only the preferred form of the invention, I wish to have it un- 30 derstood that various changes or modifications may be made within the scope of the clains hereto attached without' departing from the spirit of the invention.

The tank 1 is provided with a port 2 discharging into a bowl of conventonal construction (not shown in the drawing) and normally closed by the ball 3 adapted to be operated, through a chain of links well known in the art and therefore not particularly described, by means of the handle 4. A water intake aort 6 is controlled 'by the valve 7 operated y a float 8 in a well known manner. An over-flow. pipe 9 extends into the tank from the bottom so as to project above the normal level ot' the liquid when the tank is filled. At the upper end of this over-flow pipe I provide the cup 11, which may terminate, at the bottom, in a sleeve 12 adapted to be telescoped over the pipe 9 while a ring 13 may be threaded on the lower end of the sleeve for tightening a packing 14 upon the pipe 9 so as to efi'ect a water tight seal. The impetus of the water is such that most of it passes the trap and the ren'anng quantity forns an imperfect seal only. The dropping of the water level in the tank causes the float 8 to open the intake valve and new water rushes into the tank for refilling the same. At the same time a small stream of water is diverted through the tube 17 to flow through the cup 16 and the overfiow pipe 9 into the bowl to replenish the supply in the trap. This water, in passing through the cup 16, moistens the d'eodorzing a ent and causes the Same to give of odors whic spread through the lavatory either through the open top of the tank or through perforations 15 formed in the walls or the top of the tank. The deodorant may also contain a cleaning agent which is carried along by the water passing through the overflow pipe into the bowl and aids in maintaining the latter clean.

I claim:

1. A device of the type described, comp-ising a tank, a discharge port carried by said tank, an overfiow pipe communicatng with said discharge port, a deodorant carryng cup fixed to the upper end ot' said overfiow pipe so as to form a symn'etrical enlargement thereof, a valve for admitting water into said tank, and an auxiliary tube communicating with said valve and terminating in said cu water flowng thru said valve into said cup.

2. A device as defined in claim l in which the cup is formed with a depending flange adapted to telescope on the overflow pipe and in which a sleeve formed withan internal flange is slidable on the pipe and threaded on the cup flange for forcing a packing upon the pipe.
