Application led August 17, 1926. Serial No. 129,694.
My invention is an infants stocking, adapted to pull over an infants 'foot and leg and to be attached to the diaper.
An object of my invention is the construction of a loose fitting stocking which may be called a kicking stocking for infants, intended to be drawn over their feet and legs and to be attached to the diaper so that an infant may exercise and kick without danger of catching cold by having its legs exposed.
A further object of my invention is to form a stocking of woven fabric cut to shape more or less to an infants leg and foot and with the outer side extending considerablyv above the inner side so that it will reach well up on Vthe infants thigh, the lower side extending to the knee or slightly above the knee.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows an infant wearing stockingFs according to my invention;
ig. 2 is an elevation of the stocking looking at the inner side;
Fig. 3 is a section of the stocking on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 in the direction of the arrows.
The stocking is formed preferably of woven material and has a leg portion 1 and a foot portion 2. Both of these are designed to have a loose fit on an infants foot and leg. The front seam 3 and the rear seam 4 allow the stocking to be folded fiat and the outer side at the top 5 extends considerably above the top 6 of the inner side of the stocking. The upper edge is bound with a tape 7 or the like. The stocking is preferably made inside out and then turned so that the seams are on the inside. The stocking is intended to fasten to the childs diaper indicated by the numeral 8 by means of a safety pin 9 or the like.
With a stocking constructed substantially as shown the top edge fits up tight against the diaper on the inside and is drawn up tight on the outside, therefore the infants leg is not exposed and the child may kick or play with all the freedom of bare legs and feet and not be exposed to the danger of catching cold.
It is obvious that my infants stocking may be changed in shape or in eneral construction and if desired could e made of knitted fabric and shaped closer to the leg and foot than the one illustrated. One of the features, however, is in having one side of the stocking much longer than the other side to allow fastening of same to another garment.
My invention may be changed in general construction or in specific details without departing from the spirit thereof as set forth in the description, drawings and claims.
In order to supply sufficient strength to the stocking without making it unduly heavy, the front and rear seams 3 and 4 are joined to the binding tape 7 which extends around the top 6 at substantially the level of the infants knee and aroun the outside part 5 of the top which extends upwardly over the childs thigh to be fastened to the diaper 8 by the safety pin 9. Therefore the tearing stresses on the upper art 5 when the infant kicks and the like are carried by the binding 7 to the front and rear seams 3 and 4 and hence distributed over the stocking.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. An infants stocking havin a leg and a foot portion with front and bac seams, the inside of the leg portion at the top being substantially straight across the stocking from seam to seam and the outside of the leg portion extending upwardly from the front and back seams to a considerable height above the top of the inner portion, and a binding on the outside upper extension, said binding joining the front and back seams.
2. An infants stocking having a leg and a foot portion with front and back seams, the inside of the leg portion at the top being substantially straight across' the stocking Y from seam to seam and the outside of the leg portion extending upwardly from the front and back seams to a considerable height above thc top of the inner portion, and a binding on the inside top edge of the leg portion, said binding contmuing on the edge of the outside extension of the leg portion, said binding being connected to the front and back seams.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
