DEVICE FOR FACLITATNG THE FITTING AND HANGING OF DOORS..k
Application filed April 145, 1925. Serial No. 102,012. l
Figure 1 is a face view ofthe invention as applied to a doorway. Y
Figure 2 is a similar view of theinvention alone.
5 Figure 3 is a perspective'view of a portion of the invention.
The invention has relation to a device for fitting and hanging doors, an object being to provide a device for this purpose 'designed to facilitate the hanging vof the door and to save time and labor. Other objects andadvantages Will appear hereinafter. v j
`The invention consists in the novel. construction and combinations of parts as rset forth in the appended claims.v f y In the accompanyingdrawings illustrating the invention the numeral 1 designates a` skeleton like rectangular form, designed to fit into the doorway oropening adjacent the' jamb thereof, the side bars 2 of said form being adjustable for length by means of jointv plates 3 engaging said side bars and extending above and below the adjacent ends ably by means of lapping sections 9, 9, usu-` ally of Hat or strap metal as are also said joint plates, and provided with series of aligned perforations 10, engaged by transverse bolts 11. The side barsl 2 are preferably of wood, the entire form being of light skeleton form, adapted to be readily transported from place to place.
The skeleton form 1 is provided with upper and lower rigid transverse abutment and brace bars 12,12, respectively, each ofunitary light channel form, and extending the full breadth of the rectangular form 1 and at the ends beyond the side bars of said form, and provided at each end with a series of perforations 13, adapted respectively tofa'lign with a perforation 14 of the'side bar, the aligned perforations being engaged by a transverse bolt 15, said abutmentbars in the application of the form 1 to the doorway .or opening fitting against the door casing at one side thereof and holding vthe form 1 precisely vertical in said` doorway. j
The sections 9, 9, ofthe upper'and lower l bars'off the form 1, are 'more or less bendable'or fiexible owing to being made of light strap metal and the upperand lowerrigid brace or stifl'ening and abutment bars 12, l2, correct thisand make the forml rigid as a Doorways do n not usually precisely fit doors, the door of nearest stock size being usually ordered and trimmed down to make a correct lit. Frequently two inen' are 'required one for the *purpose of holding thel door in position within the doorway, and the other to niark the places where the door needs trimming. The door being trimmed to lit, one man commonly holds it again Within the `dooii\ vay`and another man marks the places for the locks and hinges, and when finally the door'is hung, it is frequently taken down again fortrimining the bottom thereof so that it `will be the proper distance from the floor.
c In the present case, the device or form is adjustable to precisely fitthe doorway, the series Vof perforations having the members thereof sufficiently close together for this purpose, and the form being properly adjusted, it is only necessary to,l place it upon the` door, which may then be readily marked `for trimming, all by one man.`
I claim: i l. A deviceto facilitate the fitting and hanging of doors, comprising a skeleton like 2. `A device tov facilitate f the fitting and' hanging of doors, comprising la skeleton like rectangular*y form of light portable nature and having sideA frame bars of wood'and upper and lower frame lbars ofy light bendable vstrap metal, said side bars being sectional and provided with light strap metal joint plates having inner stiifening ang'es, `and saidupper and lower frame bars lappingea'chfother and being y'adjuetable for 5 length aSare-Falsosaid sidebars, andupper and lower rigid unitary abutment yand stiffening bars carried by and having adjustable ling:plane inner' faces 'located `inithe same plar'leasthe outer faces of saidl Side bars.
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature.
