This invention relates to improvements in dispensers, and has for one of its principal objects the provision of an improved device by means of which peanut butter, jellies,
jams, honey, cottage cheese, mince meat, mayonnaise, malt, or any other product sold to the dealer in bulk may be kept sanitary and dispensed to the consumer in desired quantities.
One of the further important objects of this invention is tolprovide, in a dispenser1 or the like for foods or similar articles, of more or less plastic consistency, means for maintaining' the product effectively stirred 15, and of uniform body before it is dispensed.
Still another important object of this invention is to provide, in a dispenser or the like, means for retaining and supportingt-he original package ,of the goods in closed position while at the same timev affording means for completely mounting the same during dispensing Operations.
Another and still further important object of the invention is to provide, ina dispenser,'means for scraping the walls of the dispenser and also of the original container for the goods, so as to insure a complete and continuous steady removal of same, thereby eliminating waste and spoilage. y
Other and further important objects of the invention will'be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings and following specification.l l

As shown in the drawings:
The reference numeral 10 indicates generally the base of the improved dispenser of this invention, comprising preferably a circular metal plate or thelike, of suitable thickness, and positioned upon supporting legs or similar elements 12.` Y
Depending lugs 14, which may or maynot be integral with the base 10, are provided thereon, and mounted in suitable bearings therein is a crankshaft 16 having at its outer end an operating handle 18, and litted to its inner end is a bevel gear 20. rIhis bevel gear 2O meshes with a suitable co-operating bevel gear 22, which in turn isnpositioned at .the lower end of a vertical operating shaft 24 which extends upwardly through a suitable bearing in the base 10 and has its upper end screw threaded as indicated at 26.
Mounted on the shaft 24.-,26 and fixed so as to revolve therewith by means of a set screw 28, is van element comprising a number of curved blades 30, asbest shown in Figures 1 and 2. These blades are mounted upon the bottom of a tank or container 32, which is positioned upon the base l() which has its upper edge slightly flared," as indicated at 34, to receive the downturned open end of an original package of peanut butter or the like 36. Mounted upon the screw threaded portion 26 of the vertical shaft is a cross arm or the like 38 having affixed therein upwardly eX- tending pins 40 and also having attached thereto a scrapingeleme'nt 42, which is in thenature of a rod or wire of resilient'material, and bent'into the vshape shown in Fign ure 2 so as to provide at all times a resilient scraping action againstthe sides of the containers 32 and 36. Y
Aligned openings are formed in the bottom lof the tank 32 Vand in the basel() 'and adapted. to col-operate with these openings is a closure element 44 in the form of a pair of ydisks oneof which is-rotatably mounted on the base 10 by means of a screw 46 and provided withan operating handle 48.' In Order to effectively guard against leakage a ground joint is provided between the co-operating faces of the disks.
In operation, the lid having been removed from the original package orcontainer 36, it is placed in downward open position upon the tank 32, as shown in Figure 1, vvhereupon a portion of'its contents will immediately drop to the bottom of the tank 10. Upon opening of the valve 44 and operation of the handle 18 the paddle blades 30 will act to push the materialk out through the aligned openings and at the same time the screw threaded portion 26 of the vertical shaft will act to force the member 38 with its attached prongs 40 and its resilient scraping member 42 upwardly into the container 36 until the scraping member 42 will assume the position shown in the dotted lines in Figure l, which'is almost at the limit of its movement. Then the scraping member hasv reached the uppermost limit of its moyement it can be readily lowered by reversing the action of the handle 18, the discharge valve, of course, being closed. This operation can be repeated as many times as is desirable during the process of finallyv emptying` the combined receptacles.
Thecontents of the original packagewill be transferred'or emptiedintothe dispenser in a clean and convenient way. The scraping element is so shaped that sufficient friction occurs with the material inthe dispenser as to prevent the arm 38 from revolving, thereby causing the threads on the shaft 26 tomove the arlnyand its attached? elements et() and 42 upwardly through thel material until the arm 38V contacts with lthe boss on the top of the screw, thereby forcing the arm and its attachments to` revolve, and consequently scraping the sides and bottom ofE the inverted container 36 free and clear of all contents. Vifhen this is accomplished a` reverse movement of the handle 18 causes the arm 38v to move downwardly t'o vits lower limit, when it again agitates the contents and the member 42 scrapes the sides of the tank 32,. Y j f It will be evident that herein is provided a dispenser Vfor peanut butter and similar articles of foodI or the like,l which willy positively and efficiently discharge such material from a containing receptacle and with- Vout any dangerjof contamination by exposure, to open air or insects, and with Va posi-V tive elimination of Waste, The action of the rodsfor prongs 40 assists in stirring the material so as to insure a uniform'consistency" which is especially desired inthe case' ofmaterialls which have a tendency to separate into layers of' various thicknesses;
'I' am aware that many changes maybe made and numerous details of construction varied tiroughout a wide' range without. departing;n from the principles of this invention, and l therefore do not purpose limitingl the patent' granted hereon otherwise than as necessitated by the prior art.
l claim as my invention:
l; A dispenser, including in combination, a dispensingl tank having a discharge opening' therein., closurel means for the. opening, andV manually operated means for forcing material through the opening, said means comprising a series off' paddle bladesl rotatably positioned in the dispenser, and further means simultaneouslyoperated with the dis charge means for maintaining a uniform consistency in the material to be dispensed and for scraping the sides of the container, said means including a vertical screw, a c-rossbar onthe screw, and mixingl rods on the crossbar, the rotation of the screw forcing the' said prongsA upwardly through the material'to be dispensed.
2. A dispenser, including` in combinatien, a. dispensing` tank having' a discharge opening therein, closure means for the opening, and manually operated .means for forcing material through the opening, said means comprisinga seriesl of paddle blades rotatably positioned in thedispenser, and further means simultaneously operated withthe dischargel means fori maintaining a uniform consiste-noyin'f the material to be dispensed and fonscrapingv the sides. of the container, said means including a vertical: screw, a
