LOADING DEVICE.

This invention aims to provide a loading device having detachable mounting means so that the device and the mounting means can be" quickly and easily moved from place to place. The invention is primarily intended for such purposes as transferring material such as cement from storage or railroad cars onto trucks.
It is an object of the invention to provide a loading device having a bucket so mounted thereon that it may be turned about a vertical axis, as for instance over or into a railroad car, or over a loading platform, for filling, and then over a truck into whiclrthe contents of the "bucket istobe dumped; Because by so doing not only may the'bucket be filled prior to the arrival of the truck so that the-loading time of the latter may becut down to a minimum but the fact of the bucket being mounted to swing outwards also eliminates the necessity of the truck backing against the car orplatform.
A further object of the invention is to provide a loading device wherein the bucket is provided both with dumping and tilting means for emptying the contents, for whereas the bucket can be more quickly emptied by tilting when full, when only partially filled it is hard to tip the bucket and in that case it is usually best to dump the contents.

The locking member is so placed that,when it is in normal positi'on it engages the stop and prevents' the bucket from tipping in one direction, and the front of the bucket prevents the latter from tipping in the" oppo site direction.
The lower margins of the front andrear walls 15 and 10of the bucket 1 are prefer ably rolled to receive hinge pins 16 and 17 which carry the bottom plates 18 and 19 re spectively. Integral with these plates are lugs 20 and 21 having links 22 and 23 pivotally connected toth'em, and the oppositeends of the links are secured to the lower end of the rod 2 1-. The upper end of this red is mounted on the cranked portion '25 of the shaft 26 which extends across-the bucket and is supported by the sides of the latter; 27' indicates a handle on one'end of theshaft 261 It will be noted that the shaft 26ispreferably positioned in proximity. to the back or w front) wall of the bucket so asxnot tointerfere' with the filling'of the latter and when the bottom plates 18' and 19 are inclosed position the angle of the rod 24 corresponds with the inclination of the cranked portion of the shaft, so-that there-is no tendency for the plates to' swing downwards accidentally.
The movable u-shaped clamps 28 which have resilient ends 29 so that they may be drawn together as by the nut and bolt, 30 and 30 may be secured to theside ofa box 0511' doorway 31 as shown in Figure 4, or to an upright 32 held against a loading plat form 33 by U-bolts 34. Each U-shaped clamp has a vertical opening 35 therethrough to receive one of the pins 6 and 9.
From the foregoing it will be readily seen that theelain'ps 28 may be quickly and easily mounted wherever required, and then the loading device can be pivotally suspended on them.
From Figure 4 it will be seen that the' bucket can be swung both into a box car 36 and also sulficiently far outwards from the side of the latter for the contents to be emptied into the body 37 of the truck, thereby eliminating the necessity of backing the truck against the doorway of the car. Figure 5 also shows the same feature when loading from the platform 33.
The bucket can be filled from the car or platform prior to the arrival of the truck so that when the latter comes the bucket can be immediately swung over it and emptied. Moreover emptying may be accomplished either by tipping or dumping.
lVhil-e in the foregoing the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described and shown, it is understood that the construction is susceptible to such modifications as fall within the scope of the ap pended claims.
iVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A loading device comprising detachable clamps adapted to be secured to a vertical member, a supporting member pivotally mounted on one of said clamps, laterally disposed arms extending from said supporting member, a second supporting member pivotally mounted on the other of said clamps, braces secured to said second supporting member and also to said lateral arms, a bucket mounted between said arms, and means for emptying the contents of said bucket.

A loading device comprising detaehable clamps, a supporting member pivotally mounted on each of said clamps, lateral arms secured to one of said supporting members, braces secured to the other supporting member and also to said arms, a bucket pivotally mounted between said arms, a stop on said bucket, and a locking member pivotally mounted on one of said arms adapted to bear against said step and prevent rotation of said bucket.-
3. A leading device comprising detachable clamps, a supporting member pivotally mounted on each of said clamps, lateral arms secured to one of said supporting mem bers, braces secured to the other supporting member and also to said arms, a bucket mounted between said. arms, bottom plates pivotally mounted on said bucket, a shaft through the sides of said bucket, a handle on said shaft, a crank integral with said 8, wherein the crank and the red are inclined at substantially the same angle when the bottom plates are in closed position.
5. A leading device comprising detachable clamps each having a vertical opening therein, supporting members each having a down- 7 wardly projecting pin to take into one of said openings so that said supporting members may swing around on said clamps, lateral arms secured to one of said supporting members, braces fastened to the other supporting member and to said arms, a bucket mounted between said arms, and means for emptying the contents of said bucket.
6. A loading device as described in claim 5, wherein the detachable clamps are U shaped, have resilient sides with holes through them, bolts through said sides adapted to tighten the clamps on a vertical member, and an outward projection at the centre of the U through which the vertical openings are provided for the pins.
7. A leading device comprising two U shaped clamps adapted to be secured one above the other around a vertical support, a central outward projection on each of said clamps having anopening therethrough, upper and lower supporting members each having downwardly projecting pins to take into one of said openings and adapted to turn therein, arms secured to said lower supportiug member substantially at right angles to said pins, braces connected to said upper supporting member, flexed downwardly for portion of their length, and having their outer ends attached to said arms, a bucket supported between said arms, and means for emptying the contents of said bucket.
8. A loading device com 'irisiug a bucket, lateral arms between which. said bucket is mounted, a common supporting member attached to both of said lateral arms at their ends remote from said bucket, a brace secured to each of said lateral arms towards the bucket supporting ends of the latter, a
second supporting member connecting said braces at their ends remote from said arms, detachable supporting means on which both of said supporting members may be rotatably mounted about a common vertical axis, and means for emptying said bucket.
