A. HENDERSON RUBBER PROTECTOR FOR STOCKINGS File July 2, 19 z Sheets-Sheet 2 I flda flwrderswr INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 8, 1927;
ADA HENDERSON, OF WAMIPSVILLE, NEW YORK.
RUBBER PROTECTOR FOR STOCKINGS.
Application filed July 2, 1926. Serial No. 120,168.
This invention relates to a stocking protector, the general object of the invention being to provide a legging-like article preferably formed of thin rubber and designed to cover the ankles and lower portion of the leg and to fit over a rubber on the shoe so as to protect the stocking from the elements as well as to keep the leg dry.
Another object of the invention is to so form the device that it can be placed on the leg and its edges fastened together by snap fasteners or the like, with a flexible band for holding the lower part of the device over the instep and with a garter-like arrangement at its upper end for holding the device around the calf-of the leg.
This invention also consists in certain other featuresof construction and inthe combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. r
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying. drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the device in use.
Figure 2 is a similar view but looking toward the opposite side of the device.
Figure 3 is a View of the device in open position.
Figure 4 is a similar view of the opposite side of the device. v
Figure 5 is a section on line 55 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a section on line 66of.Figure 4.
As shownv in these views, the device is formed of a pair of pieces 1 and 2 of thin rubber or similar material which are sewn together at the front edges, being used to cover the seam. The upper portions of the strips are made full so that they will fit around the calf portions of the leg and the lower portion of the device tapers ofi' to a rounded point 4 which is also curved so that this part of the device will fit over the instep part of the foot.
A triangular shaped member 5,, formed of three pieces 6, 7 and 8, cut on the bias and sewn together, has one of its inclined edges sewn to the outer edge of the piece 2 intermediate the ends of said piece. This member 5 partly portion of the foot.
' rubber,
a, small. strip 3 is adapted to fit around the rear part of the ankle and its free edge is adapted to be detachably fastened to the edge of the piece 1,
by the snap fasteners 9. The free edges of the pieces 1 and 2 are also provided with snap fasteners 10 at their calf covering portions for holding the device around the calf part of the leg. A band 11 of resilient material has its ends fastened to the edges of the part 4 and is adapted .to extend under the instep portion of the foot to hold this part 4 in place. A strip 12 of resilient material is fastened to the upper end of the device and a strip. 13 of the same material from which the major portion of the device 1s formed, is sewn to the upper edge of the give a garter-like is placed through the opening formed by the strip lltWlllCh will holdthe part 4 and the part 4 in a position covering the instep The free edge of the member 5 is then placed around the ankle and fastened to the piece 1 and then the pieces 1 and 2-are fastened together. The strips 12 and 13 will act to hold the device against slipping down overthe calf and as the lower portion of the device overlaps the any water running down the device will pass over the rubber. Thus the device will keep the stocking clean and dry and will also keep the leg warm and dry. It is thought from the foregoing description that thecadvantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood. that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several device and covers the strip 12. and is gath:
parts, provided that such changes fall with mg curved to fitover the instep part of the I foot of the wearer, a member connected with one edge of the tapered part, fastening means for connecting the other edge of the said second member with the opposite tapered edge of the main member so that the second member will cover the rear part of the ankle and a. strap connected with the lower edges of the device and adapted to pass under the instep portion of the foot.
2. A stocking protector comprising a member for covering the leg and ankle of the wearer, said member being open, fasteners for connecting the edges together, atriangular shaped member connected with one edge of the maifn /b'otly of the protector for covering the m1- of the ankle, and fastening means for connecting the other edge of the member with a portion of the other edge of the device. i
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
