My invention relates to switch mechanism and particularly to circuit breakers of the truck-panel type wherein the circuit breaker is carried upon atruck that'is enclosed withl in a sheet-metal housing or cell.
One object ofmy' invention is to provide simple and efiective means for preventing the withdrawal of the truck from the cell so long as the circuit breaker is in closed position. I
Another object ofmy'invention is to provide a circuit-breaker apparatus, having the above characteristics, wherein means are provided for preventing movement "of the truck into the cell so long as the circuit breaker is in closed position.
Another objectof my invention is to provide a latch for releasably locking'the truck within the cell that is operable by the truckoperating handle, themovements of which are controlled by a locking means controlled bythe circuit breaker for preventing opening or closing movement of the truck while the circuit breaker is in closed position.
Anotherob'ect of'my invention is to provide a circu t-breaker mechanism of the truck-panel type wherein means are provided for preventing closing movement of the 6 truck so long as the ground switch mounted in the cell is in closed position.
' These and other objects, that will be made apparent throughout the further description of my invention, are attained by means of the apparatus hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring to the drawings, the apparatus includes a sheet-metal cell 3 in which feed bus bars 4 and stationary disconnectin switch contact members 5 and 6 are mounte on insulator pedestals 7.
The circuit breaker 8 is of the oil-immersed type and is mounted upon a truck frame 9 that is supported upon wheels 11 that travel along the rails 12 constituting the bottom framework of the sheet-metal cell 3. Dis ecting-switch c a t m m rs 1.3
and 14 are mounted in insulating bushings 15 and 16, respectively, which are secured to the frame 9 in the usual manner. The circuit breaker is connected to the contact members 13, through conductors 17, series transformer 18 and conductors 19 and to the contacts 14 through the conductors21.
The contact members 13 and 14 are yieldmgly mounted in the bushings 15 and 16, respectively, and are, therefore, self-centering when brought into engagement with the disconnecting-switch contacts 5 and 6 as the truck is moved into the cell.
,It is an object of my invention to prevent the withdrawal of the truck or separation of the contacts of the disconnecting switch above described so long as the circuit breaker is'in closed position. I The side walls of the cell are, therefore, provided with stop members 22 to be engaged by latch members 23 that are secured to the truck frame. The three circuit-breaker contacts are carried by rods 24 that are pivotally connected to rocking levers 25 which are also pivoted to the truck by shafts 26.
When the circuit breaker is in closed position, that is, when the levers 25 are in their uppermost position, the levers enga e the free ends of the latch members 23 an hold them in the locked position, illustrated in. Fig. 1, wherein the offset portions 27 of the latch members 23 occupy positions behind the stop members 22.
It will be seen, therefore, that the truck cannot be withdrawn from the cell so long as the circuit breaker is in closed position. Should the truck be withdrawn from the cell and the circuit breaker closed, the projection 28 on the latch member 23 would engage the outer face of the stop member\22 and prevent closing movement of the truck so long as the circuit breaker should remain in closed position. I
Further means for latchin the truck in closed position is operated y the truckoperating handles 29 that are pivoted to the truck upon shafts 31. Each handle is provided with an extension 32 to engage a latch member 33 that is pivoted to the truck upon a shaft 34. The latch 33 is provided with a hook portion 35 that engages the rear face 105 of a stop member 36 secured to the side walls of the cell. Each latch 33 is also provided with a projecting portion 37 that engages a projection 38 on the latch member 23.
The projection 38 serves to prevent releasing movement of the latch member 33 so long as it is in the latching position shown in Fig. 1. It will be seen, therefore, that the latch 33 cannot be released from engagement with the stop member 36 until the latch member 23 is moved to its releasing position. Inasmuch as this movement is prevented so long as the circuit breaker is closed, it is impossible to release the latch until the circuit breaker has been moved to open position. v
The circuit breaker is actuated by means of an operating lever 39 which is mounted upon a shaft 41. The handle 39 is connected to a rocking crank 42 by means of a link 43. The rocking crank 42 is connected to a-rocking plate 44 by means of a link 45. The plate 44 is pivoted to the truck and oscillates about a shaft 46. The rocking lever 25 is connected to the rocking plate 44 by means of a link 47. By reason of the various rocking members and links that are connected to the operating handle 39, the
circuit breaker contact members are moved to open position when the operating handle 39 is moved upwardly.
-When the truck is withdrawn from the cell, it is desirable to ground certain circuits and, for this purpose, the contact members 6 are provided with contact jaws 48 to receive grounding switch blades 49 that are pivoted to the cell upon the shaft 51. The blades 49 are connected to a crank arm 52 having a pivotal connection to an operating bar 53 that is disposed horizontally within the cell and is adapted to be engaged by an angleiron bar 54 which is a part of the truck frame 9.
WVhen the grounding switch is in closed position, the bar 53 projects into the chamber occupied by the truck. In case the operator fails to open the ground switch before the truck is inserted within the cell, the cross bar 54 will engage the bar 53 and cause the ground switch to be opened before the disconnecting switch contact members 13 and 14 engage the stationary contact members 5 and 6.
The contact members for the control circuit are mounted upon a panel 55 that is secured to the upper part ofthe cell in an inclined position. Contact members 56 are carried upon the truck and are adapted to engage the contact members of the panel 55 when the truck is moved into the cell. The details of the construction of the control panels are fully set forth in my Patent No. 1,557,001, issued October 13, 1925.
It will be seen from the foregoing that, b reason of the interlocking mechanism above described, improper sequence of oper ation of the various elements of the apparatus may be prevented and that the mechanism may, therefore, be operated with perfect safety.
While I have described and illustrated but one embodiment of my invention, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes, modifications, substitutions, additions and omissions may be made in the apparatus illustrated without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. The combination with an enclosing cell and a circuit-breaker truck having a movable operating handle, of a latch mechanism interlocked with the circuit breaker and operable by the truck-operating handle for preventing opening movement of the truck so long as the circuit breaker is in closed position.
2. The combination with an enclosing cell and a circuit-breaker truck having a movable operating handle independent of the circuit breaker operating mechanism, of a latch mechanism interlocked with the circuit breaker and operable by the truck-operating handle and for preventing closing movement of the truck so long as the circuit breaker is closed.
3. The combination with a support having disconnecting switch contact members and a circuit breaker truck having a disconnecting switch carried thereby for engaging the said contact members and having a movable operating handle independent of the circuit breaker operating mechanism, of a latch mechanism interlocked with the circuit breaker and operable by the truck operating handle for preventing opening movement of the truck and disconnecting switch so long as the circuit breaker is in closed position.
4. The combination with an enclosing cell having disconnecting switch contact members and a circuit-breaker truck having a disconnecting switch carried thereby for engaging the said contact members and having a movable operating handle independent of the circuit breaker operating mechanism, of a latch mechanism interlocked with the circuit breaker and operable by the truck operating handle and for preventing closing movement of the truck and disconnecting switch so long as the circuit breaker is in its closed position.
5. In a truck-panel circuit breaker. a cell having a stop member, a truck for the circuit breaker movable into and out 'of the cell, means for actuating the circuit breaker, a latch carried bythe truck and actuated by the said means for engaging the stop member to prevent opening or closing movement of the truck when the circuit breaker is closed position, a. movable operating handle for the truck, a second latch interlocked with the cell to prevent o ning actuated by the said means for releasably locking the truck within the cell, and means controlling the movement of the said latch and interlocked with the circuit breaker for preventing opening movement of the truck when the breaker is closed.
7. In a truck-panel circuit breaker, a truck for the circuit breaker, a cell for receiving the truck, a movable operating means for the truck, a latch'carried by the truck and actuated by the said means forreleasably 1 locking the truck within the cell, and means for controllin the movement of the said latch and inter ocked with the circuit breaker. for preventin closing movement of the truck when the greaker is closed.
8. In a truck-panel circuit breaker, a truck for the circuit breaker, a cell for receiving the truck, a movable operating means for the truck, a latch carried by the truck and actuated by the said means for releasably lockin the truck within the cell, and means contro ling the movement of the said latch and interlocked with the circuit breaker for preventing opening and closing movement of tle truck when the circuit breaker is c ose In testimony whereof, I have hereunto HERMAN K.
