COMBINATION COAT AND TROUSER HANGER Filed Sept. 11. 1925 Patented Feb. 8, 1927.
UNITED? STATES Little HENRY WILLIAM SEW HOY, OF DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND.
COMBINATION COAT AND TROUSER HANGER.
Application filed September This invention relates to that type of garment hanger whereon coats or the like are hung to preserve their shape; .and in particular to a combination garment hanger, by
means of which a full suit of clothes-such as coat and trousers may be hung.
I know of other forms of coat hangers by means of which the shape of garments may be preserved, but they have not the advantages of one in accordance with my invention, in that they are generally adapted to hang trousers by means of the buttons, .allowing the leg portion to hang downwards, which does not preserve the shape, espe- 1 cially of the leg portions, the construction of the said hanger being mainly composed of wire, thus rendering it a more expensive article than one made as'herein described.
The object of my invention is. to provide ".0 a combination garment hanger of simpler design than hitherto constructed, which, while providing means for hanging a coat, is also adapted to suspend trousers by the bottoms thereof, whether permanent turn up or straight bottoms, in order that the weighty portion of the garment may depend from the legs thereof, so as to diminish any bagging existing in the vicinity of the knee portion of the legs, and to preserve the crease thereof.
In addition to the provision of a combina-- tion coat and trousers hanger, in construction, by making the parts of the said hanger detacliably hinged, two coats may be hung when the hanger is not required for trousers.
Referring to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a coat hanger in accordance with my invention, showing how it may be opened to allow for inserting the bottoms of the trousers, and how, after being closed is clamped in position by means of the clip at the end thereof.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the hanger showing how garments may be hung there- There are two equally dimensioned strips of wood or battens 1 and 2', hinged together at one end by means of the hinge 3, so that the faces 4 and 5 will be adjacent each other when closed. The open end is provided with a clip comprising a triangular shaped link 6, pivoted at 7 in a sheet metal bracket 8, positioned on the batten 2; this providing 11, 1925. Serial No. 55,800.
so asto form a neck 12 for the engagement of the portion 12 of the triangular shaped pivoted link 6, when two battens 1 and 2 are brought together.
Four eye screws 13, 13 13 13 are screwed into the battens 1 and 2 atpredetermined distances apart, there being two such screws on each batten. Two pieces of cord 14: and 15 are passed through a ring 16, and each end thereof passed through the eyes of the said screws, to be afterwards rctained'in position by knotting the ends.
The hanging of the garments is proceeded with as follows:
The clip 6 is unlatched, allowing the battens 1 and 2 to come apart for the insertion of the trouser bottoms 17, as illustrated in Figure 2, when they will be retained in po sition by merely relatching the clip 6 and the coat 18, shown in broken lines in Figure 2 is hung in the usual manner. 7
It is understood thatthe hinged connection 3 is made up of separable parts whereby the respective battens land 2 may be wholly disconnected one from the other, and each utilized as a coat hanger,'as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. i to be noted that the relative angular disposition of the cords 1 1 and 15 in the use of the device as a coat'hanger, is such that Furthermore, it is t said cords act to support the collar portion of the coat, thereby maintaining. a proper hang of the garment.
lVhat I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A combination coat and trouser hanger,
comprising duplicate battens, a separable hinge connecting the battens at one end, a connecting means for the opposite ends of the battens, a hanging support, cords having their ends connected to the respective battens ad acent similar ends of such, the intermediate portion of each cord being passed loosely through the support, the angular disposition of the respective cordsprovidingfor supporting the collar of a coat'when either or both battens are used for such purpose.
In testimony name to this specification.
HENRY WILLIAM SEW HOY.
