IMPROVEMENT IN QUILTING-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 161,639, dated April 6, 1875; application filed March 1, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that we, GEORGE P. SIMMoNs and J OI-IAN FRANZ, of Cambridge, in the counof Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Quilting-Frames, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, reference bein g had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an isometrical perspective view.
Our invention relates to means for controlling the roller of the frame, and rendering the same adjustable; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of the parts as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, by which a simpler, cheaper, and more effective device of this character is produced than is now in ordinary use.
In the drawing, A represents the back or main rail of the frame; B B, the sides, and D the roller. The rail is provided with dowels, which secure it to the sides, as shown by the dotted lines L, and a series of eyebolts, K, are arranged around the inside of the frame to which the quilt is attached. Fitted to slide on the sides B B are two head-stocks, O O,
mortised at J for the sides, and at I for the eyes K. These stocks are provided with setserews h hat their outer ends, for adjusting them in any desired position on the sides B. There is also a bolt-case, e, fitted in the upper side of each stock, carrying the bolt 5}, which is actuated by the push or stud f. Projecting inwardly from the stocks 0 are two pins or axes, (not shown,) on which the roller D is centrally journaled, so as to be rotated freely, and in each end of the roller, near its periphery, are holes, (not shown,) into which the bolts G are pushed to secure it in any desired position as the quilting is performed, and the quilt rolled up.
Having thus explained our invention, what we claim is A quilting-frame consisting of the rail A, side rails B B, eyes K, head-stocks G O, and roller D, the head-stocks being provided with the screws h and bolts G, and the roller with holes in its ends to receive the bolts, the whole being combined and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose specified.
