nmmn smms PATENT OFFICE AN'ICJNY WERTETNTBRUCH, OF DETROIT, MICHIEGAN, ASSIGNOR TO LARB;GLWE MILL- ING CO1VJIPANY, OB DETROIT, MIGHIGAN, A CORPORATION Q1 OBIO The invention relates, to bag filling mm chines anal more partic1ll2fily to av means for increasing the c0ntent by weight 0l' tl1e fillecl bag. T0 tl1is encl the invention cousists in the peculiar consbrudi0n 0f mea ns f0r compacting ehe material wlthin the bag cluring fil ling operations as hereinafter Sei; forth.
In tl1e dmwings;
Figure 1 is' a sicle elevation 0f the manchine.
Figure 2 is 21 plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a cross section.
In the filling of bags with granular material it is nsual t0 place the mouth of tl1e bag amund the filling spout and t0 support the botton1 011 a shelf 0r platform. l/Vl1ex'e the n1ate-rial is dischargecl from the spout by gravity it would be loosely arrangecl und therefore greater in bulk than When in a compacted stae. Consequently it is cliflicult to place within the bag tl1e I"ull quantity by weight which it is designed t0 hold. T0 :w0icl this difllculty I l1ave devised 1ny mechanlsm f01 irnparting an oscillatory m0vement t0 the bag supporting platlor1n such ms T0 efi"ect rl1e comym.cting 0'E the 1naterial by inertiaanal without clisplacernent 0f tl1e bag in relation t0 its support.
In detail A represents ehe Clischzuge spout fron1 a ba.g filling macl1ine 0E any sultable construction ancl B the bag co be fillecl l1V- ing its mouth surronncling saicl spout. C is a sl1elf 01' platform for supp-orting the b-ottom 0f ehe bag and D a vertically extencling Wall rising fro1n saicl shel:f against which ehe bagdniay rest.
The platfonn C und Wall D are mountecl upon an osclllatory fmme comprising the lwriz-ontally extending parallel bars E shown as metallicangle ba1s. F is a link pivotally attachecl to the rear encl 0'f tl1e bzus E by a holt 01 pivot pin G. H are stationary bea1ns 011 opposite sides 0'f the bars E und whlch support the link F tln=ougl1 tl1e mecli.um 0f a holt I. J is a man]: shalt extencling transversely across tl1e ba1s E and the be2uns H being ournale:d in bearings K upon saicl bemns und having its cranks 01 eccentric portions engaging bearings L 011 the l02us E. M is a pulley mountetl on the shaft J 21ncl d1iwan by a belt 01' otl1er suitable drive connection 110t sl1own.
With t-he construction as clescribecl, lt Will be noted that the platf'orm C anal WLll D a1e su'pportecl 011 thelorwarclly projecting portion of ehe bars E, whi;ch in tu1 n are supported by the. crankJ 2md link- F. Tl1us, When the pulley M is driven in tl1e cli1ection inclicated by the arrow, an; -oscillatory movement Will b.e impartgcl to. the bars E zu1d platform C ancl Wall D ca rried there by. The. c lirection 0f movemeni; is such that when the platform Changes fronn a,- downward to an upward moVement lt is als-o travelling outwarcl buab -clecre asing velooity. Thus, inertia Will cause tl1-e compacting 0f tl1e material against both the bottom and the rear Wall ancl Will hold tl1e bag from relative clisplaeement. On the 0tl1er hancl, 011 the rex ersal from upwarcl to clownwarcl movement, gravity Will assist in overcoming the inertia 01' the clisplacelnent of the bag thereby. The total effect is to compact the conbent of the bag during tl1e filling operation so filmt the full quantity may 109 plaoecl berein.
vVlmt I claim as my invention is:
l. The comloination with means for dis* cluu'glng material int0 the mouth 0'E a bag, oi' n suppo1t f01' tl1e botton1 und 0ne Sicle 0f the lmg aml means f01' in1parting t0 saicl supportan oscillatmy movement in -a vertical plane und in a direction t0 press the sicle support against said bag onreversal f101n down- Ward to upvvard movement of t he bottom support therefor.
2. The combination with means for discharging material into tl1e moutl1 0f a bang, of a support f0r saicl bag comprising a horizontally extencling bar, a pivotal link for supporting one end 01 saicl bar, a revoluble crank for engagin'g an intermecliate portion 0'f said bar and a platform and side Wall for engaging ehe bag mountecl 0n the free end of said bar.
3. The combination with means for diseharging material into the mouth of a bag, of a support for saicl bag comprising a pair o1. parallel horizontally extending bars, a swinging link :for pivotally connecting ancl supporting the rear encls 0l' said bars, a revoluble crank shaft for erigaging the intermediate portion 013 said bars ancl a platforrn ancl side supporting Wall f0r the bng mountecl 0n tl1e .l'oxward encl portion 0f saicl ba1s.
4. The combination with 1neans -for discharging material into tl1e m0uth of a bag,
of a support for saicl bag comprising a horizontally extencling bar, a pivotal link for supporting the rear end of saicl bar, a crank shai't f01 engaging an intermediate portion of saicl bar 110 oscillate tl1e same in a vertical plane ancl in a direction t0 reverse from downward t0 upward movement While saicl bar is also moving outwardly, and a platform and rear supporting Wall f01' saicl bag mountecl on said bar.
5. The combinat-ion with 1neans f01 d1scharging material into the mouth 0'f a bag,
of a support for saicl bag comprising a platf0rm anal a vertically extending W2Lll mountecl on saicl platform against which the bag is adaptecl t0 rest, ancl means for imparting an oscillatory movernent t0 saicl support in a direction to retain the bag from relative clisplacement by inertia.
6. The combination with means for discharging material into the mouth 01 a c0ntainer, 0f a support for the bottom and one sicle of the container comprising a platform and a vertically extencling Wall mounted on saicl plati'orm, saiol platform adapted to be mountecl on a frame comprising a paix of horizontally extending parallel bars, and means for imparting an oscillatory movement to said :frame in a vertical plane and in a direction to press the Wall against said containe1 0n reversal from downward to upward movernent 0f the platform.
7. The combination With means fo1 discharging material into the mouth of a bag, 0l" a support f01' said bag comprising a horiZontally extending bar, means associaterl with said bar 7Eor imparting an oscillatory movement to said bag, ancl a platform und sicle Wall f0r engaging the bag mounced 0n said bar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ANTONY WERTENBRCH.
