Description

G ..w.' ROGERS. Adjustable ventilating fiegister.
No, 161,442, Patented March 30,1875
WITNESSES h IINVEN-TOR ATTORN EYS THE GRAPHIC COLPHOTOLITHJQ 5441 PARK PLAOE,N.Y.
GEORGE W. ROGERS, OF LAKE CITY, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ADJUSTABLE VENTILATINGREGISTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,442, dated March 30, 1875; application filed December 26, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ROGERS, of Lake City, in the county of Wabash and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Adjustable Ventilating-Register; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a sectional view of my device. Fig. 2 is a plane view of the same.
My invention has relation to registering devices and regulators; and consists in the employment of an adjustable perforated plate operated by a lever, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A A designate two cylinders, which are fitted one within the other, so that they can receive a telescopic movement. These cylinders form, in combination with two smaller cylinders, B B, an annular space, a, through which air is allowed to circulate. The cylinders A A are secured permanently to annular flanges b on a perforated register-plate, O, and the cylinders B B are secured to annular flanges 0, formed on a circular perforated plate, D. The plates (3 and D have holes centrally through them for the passage of a stove-pipe, when it is desired to pass a stove-pipe from a lower room into a drum in an upper room, or to pass a stove-pipe into a chimney. When a stove-pipe is not required with the register the central hole may be closed by means of a small plate. E designates a circular plate, which has perforations through it,correspondin g to the perforations through the register-plate O. This plate is applied to the bottom of the register-plate O in such manner that, by turning the former about its axis, the openings through the plate O can be regulated according to the amount of air which itis desired to admit through the annular space a. The plate E is adjustable, as described, either from above or below, by means of a lever, G, which is pivoted at b to the cylinder A, and extended up through the plate E, and through a slot, 0, in the plate 0. Lever G projects slightly through the plates 0 and D, so that it can be taken hold of to adjust the plate E.
I am aware that a ventilator composed of two adjustable sections, an annular chamber, and a register is not new, and therefore I do not claim such invention, broadly.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The adjustable perforated plate E, in combination with the lever G, pivoted to the cylinder A, and extending up through the plate E and through a slot, 0, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. ROGERS.
Witnesses J. En. DAUGHTY, ADELBERT WELLS.
