L. NUESSE IRONING BOARD /`A INVENTOR.

LOUIS NUESSE, OF WAUVJATOSA, WISCONSIN, "LASSIGNOR TO THE ROCKW'ELIJ' MANU- FACTURING CO., OF MILWAUKEE, \7[,SCO1\TSII\T,` A CORPORATION OF WISCONSIN.
IRONING BOARD.
Application led June 12. 1925.
This invention relates to improvements in ironing boards, and more particularly to a folding cabinet ironing board.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide a folding ironing board. contained in a cabinet and arranged for rigid mounting therein and also `foldable to an enclosed position.
A further object of the invention is to providel a"cabineti ironing board of such construction that the board may be positioned vertically when not in use, and readily swung to the horizontal position when it is desired to use it.
A further object of the invention Ais to provide supporting means for the ironing board in the form of a cabinet which may be. positioned against or built into the wall of a room, the cabinet being provided with novel mounting means for the ironing board so that the same may be positioned vertically within the cabinet when not in use, or it may be readily swung to a. horizontal position for use, whereby when the board is not in use it is ont of the way and hidden and the padding thereon is kept clean.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cabinet ironing board adapted to present the appearance of a neat and attractive article of furniture, and equipped with an ironing board and a sleeve board adapted to be easily and quickly arranged for use. and readily returned to their folded positions.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet ironing board of the class described which is of very simple construction, is inexpensive to manufacture, is strong and durable, and is well adapted for the purposes described.
1With the above and other' objects in vie-w the invention consists of the improved cabinet ironing board, and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claim, and all equivalents thereof.
In the accompanying drawing in which Serial No. 36,639.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional 'view thereof with the boards shown in open or extended position;
Fig. 3 is a crosssectionalview taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1 and on a larger scale;
Figa is a cross sectional view taken on line i-#1 of Fig. 2 and on alarger scale; and
'Fig 5 is Va sectional View taken on line of Fig.2 and on a larger scale.
Referring new more particularly to the drawing it will appear that the numeral S designates a cabinet open at the front and including vertical side walls 9 and a horizontal top and bottom 10 and 11 secured to the walls. As constructe-d, the cabinet may be built into the wall of a room or positioned thereagainst.
The interior of the cabinet is adapted to receive an ironing board 12 which has hinged thereto at its inner end. portion a guide member 13 shaped as shown in Fig. 5 with an elongated lower portion 14 extending beyond the side edges of the ironing board to engage opposed grooves or tracks formed in the side walls 9 of the cabinet.
The grooves or tracks 15 are forwardly inclined and are provided at their upper ends with angular or horizontal branches 1G of a height equal to the height of the lower portion 14 of the guide member 13. The inclination of the grooves or tracks 15 permits the disposition of the ironing board well within the contines of the cabinet when it is in the folded position shown in Fig. 1, while the branches 16 receive the member 13 to lock the board in open position when it is extended.
Obviously, to fold the board. it is irst pushed rearwardly slightly until the member 13V enters the inclined grooves 15 and then the board is permitted to drop, the member 18 riding in the grooves, until the bottom is reached. The hinge connection between the board and the guide member permits the board to fold with respect thereto to a vertical position. In this position the board is locked by means of a pivotal latch 17.
Brace members 18 are hinged to the under intermediate portion of the board and to the lower portion of the cabinet. lVhen the board is folded the brace members fold thereagainst vertically, as in Fig. l, While when the board is extended the brace members support and brace it, as shown in Fig. 2.
Extending horizontally across the medial portion of the back of the cabinet is a rail lf) having hinged thereto a small sleeve board 20. YWhen the main board l2 is extended in horizontal position and the sleeve board is unfolded to horizontal position it rests on and is supported by the upper edge ot the guide member 13. The sleeve board ifolds vertically into the cabinet rearwardly ot the main board and is retained in l'olded position by means of n pivotal latch 2l.
Any unused portion, of the cabinet may be provided with a suitable shelf QQ to form a convenient Compartment for irons and the like. The open front of the cabinet is arranged with a suitable hinged door to close the same when the board is not in use.
From the foregoing description it Will be seen that the inlproved cabinet ironing board is of very simple and novel construction,
and is Well adapted for the purpose set forth.
IVhat I claim as my invention is:
In a cabinet provided at opposite sides with upwardly extending and forwardly inclined grooves having horizontal, forwardlyv extending portions at their upper terminals, a guide member having its side portions engaging said grooves and horizontal portions7 an ironing board hinged at its inner end portion to said guide member and movable to a horizontal extended position exteriorly ot said cabinet wherein it is niaintained in such position by said guide ineinber7 the guide member being engaged in said horizontal portions when in maintaining position, and a sleeve board hinged at its inner end portion to the cabinet and engaged and supported by the upper portion of said guide member when the ironing board is in horizontal. position.
In testimony whereof, I artiix .my .signa ture.
LOUIS NUESSE.
