SPOTLIGHT.

' This invention relates to a spotlight adapted to be attached to a fixed part of an automobile or other vehicle.
An object of the invention is the provision of a spotlight in which the lens, reflector, lamp socket holder and focusing device for the lamp are removable as a unit from the casing forming a housing for the unit.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a removable lighting and reflecting unit of a spotlight in which a focusing device for the lamp which forms part of the unit is removably connected to said unit.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a supporting bracket for the spotlight whereby the spotlight may be adjusted in a plurality of different positions.
This invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, in view of the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specification; nevertheless it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the dis closure, being susceptible of such changes and modifications which shall define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 10 designates a cylindrical casing having an annular groove 11 disposed intermediate its open end 12 and the closed convex rear end 1.3. The casing is provided at its lower portion with a perforation in which is inserted an insulating sleeve let, through which is inserted the usual insulated electric wire 15.

ceive a bolt 18 mounted in a longitudinal passage 19 in an enlarged and elongated head the ends of the ring abutting the opposite ends of the head. Said head has a depending threaded lug 21 mounted in a vertical passage in a block 22. A. nut 23 locks the lug to the block and the lug is rotated in said block for adjusting the an gular position of the head and the headlight.
The block has a threaded lug 24 passing through a perforation in the bent end 25 of a clamping arm 26. A nut 27 looks the end of the arm to the block; A second clamping arm 28 is adjusted towards arm 26 by a bolt 29 so that the cooperating clamping jaws 30 will lock the arm 26 to a fixed support on an automobile or other vehicle.
The reflector, lens and lamp socket together with the focusing device forms a unitary structure and as such is removable from the casing 10 as a unit.
The outer end of a parabolic reflector 31 has an annular flange 32 received within a groove 33 in an annular attaching ring 3 1. This ring has corrugations 35 engageable with cooperating shoulder 36 on the inner face of the casing 10 for locking the ring in the outer open end 12 of said casin A lens 37 has its periphery seated in the flange 32 and engaged by a flange 38 on the ring for maintaining the peripheral portions of the lens in close contact with the flange 32 on the reflector 31 and a ring 39 between the lens and flange 32 aid in preventing rattlin The ring 3% has lugs 34c punched fromthe material of said ring and are adapted to engage the flange 32 for aiding in holding the glass 37 and reflector in place.
The rear of the reflector has a central opening embraced by an annular flange 40. A sleeve 41 is mounted in said flange and receives the arms of a lamp socket holder.
The lamp base holder or socket generally designated by the numeral 42 is formed as a unit with the focusing device and as such is removable from the reflector and casing 10. The socket has a pair of resilient arms 13 with lateral flanges llto clamp the base 4-5, of the lamp 46. The arms of the socket are connected by a base 47 having a threaded perforation l8 to receive a screw 49.
The screw passes through a passage 50 in an insulating plate 51. The opposite edges of the plate are provided with notches 52 engaged by grooved ribs 53 for removably securing the socket to said plate. The plate has slots 54 through which are inserted resilient metal straps 55 whereby said straps are secured against movement. The tree ids of these straps are bent around the ends of the plate and are brought adjacent each other in close proximity of the passage 50 in the plate forming contacts 56 which are engaged by a contact 57 on the base 45. The wires 15 are connected with the straps, said wires being first passed through the perforations 58 in the glate 5i.
, The socket is removably attached to the flange 40 of the reflector 31 by jaws 59 on arms 600i a U-shaped clamp (51. The base of the clamp has a perforation 62 through which is passed the screw 4:9, with a shoulder 63 on the screw engaging the base of said clamp.
The screw has a conic-ally shaped head 64: received within a socket 65 secured to the inner wall of therear end 13 oi? the casing 10. A reduced end 66 of the screw projects through a perforation in the rear wall of the casing and is slotted for engagement with a screw driver so that said screw may be rotated.
It will be seen that by applying a sharp pointed tool between the ring 34 and the open end of the casing 10 and oscillating the tool rearwardly the ring 3% will be forced from the casing carrying with it the reflector 31, the socket 42, the clamp 61 and the screw 49 as a unit. The clamp 61 may be readily withdrawn from the socket and reflector. Vhen the sleeve etl is forced on the free end of the arms d3 of the socket 42, or when the base 45 is forced into said socket the socket is embraced by the sleeve, the flaring flanges 44: will be compressed between the base and sleeve so that the base will be rigidly secured to the socket.
By rotating the screw l) when the unit just described is in the casing, the socket 42 may belongitudinally adjusted of the clamp 61 for focusing the lamp to its proper position 'in the reflector 31.
The spotlight generally may be adjusted in various positions by loosening the nuts 23 and 70 and revolving the casing on its transverse axis through the lug 21 and tilting said casing on the bolt 18.
What I claim is:
1. In a spotlight, a casing, a parabolic reflector, a lens, a ring for connecting the lens to the reflector and for removably connecting the lens and reflector to the casing, a lamp socket, means for longitudinally moving the socket in the casing for focusing the light from the lamp and removable with the reflector, said means con'iprising a clamp adapted to grip the reflector, and a screw having a threaded mounting in the socket, said screw and clamp being removal'ile as a unit from the reflector and means for supporting the screw to retain the lamp socket in axial alineinent with the casing, said socket being movable in the clamp and independently of said clamp.
2. In a spotlight, a casing, a parabolic rcflector, a lens, a ring for connecting the lens to the reflector and for removably connecting the lens and reflector to the casing, a lamp socket, means for longitudinally moving the socket of the casing for focusing the light from the lamp and removable with the reflector, said means comprising a clamp having resilient arms, a screw having a threaded mounting in the socket, an insulating plate having notches engaged by the arms for supporting the plate, and contacts projecting inwardly from said plate, and means for supporting the screw centrally on the casing for axially alining the socket and insulating plate in the casing.
3. In a spotlight, a casing, a parabolic reflector, a lamp socket carrying a lamp, a clamp tor supporting the reflector, a screw having threaded engagements with the socket for longitudinally movin the socket in the casing for focusing the light from the lamp and adapted to support the clamp, a clamp removably connected to the reflector, and having an opening through which the screw is freely movable, a socket at the rear of the casing adapted to receive the screw for supporting the screw and for retaining the lamp and socket in axial alinement with the casin MAX soonsion.
