LISTER PLCWW Application filed. March 39, 1923.
This invention relates to improvements in lister plow structures and more particularly to the. frame and draft construction -onc object of the invention being to provide a simple and efficient frame for a two-row lister plow, which shall be capable of ready adjustment to space the plows different distances apart; which shall be adaptable for different types of listers, being capable of use with various forms of draft means, and
which shall be cheap to manufacture and yet substantial in construction.
With this object in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construetion and combinations of parts as herein after set forth and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a plan view showing' a lister plow frame and draft means embodying my improvements.
Figure 2 is a side elevation, partly in sec tion.
Figure 3 is a rear view, and
Figures 4 and 5 are views illustrating modified draft means.
The plow frame comprises in its construction, parallel side members 12 which form plow beams provided at their rear ends with integral plow standards 3, to which plow bases 4 are suitably secured. The respective side members or beams 1-2 are pr vided at their forward ends with inwardly projecting beam or frame members 5-5 which are so disposed as to lie parallel with each other throughout portions of their length. The members 5-5 are provided, each with a plurality of perforations 6 whereby the two sides of the frame may be secured by means of bolts 7 in any desired adjusted position relatively to each other. Flanged blocks 8 are disposed between the overlapping portions of the frame members 55 and are perforated for the passage of the bolts 7,-said blocks serving to eliminate any slack there may be between the bolts and the walls of the holes in themembers 55 through which said bolts pass.
Two brace members 9 9 are disposed between the rear portions of the side beams or members 12 and these brace members overlap each other as clearly shown in Fig ure 1,said brace members being adjustably connected together in the same manner as above described in connection with the forward members 5-5. Each brace member Serial No. $23,857.
is provided at one end with a rearwardly and downwardly extendlng portion 10 and these portions 10 he against the respective side members 12 and against the standard portions at the rear ends of said members, thus serving to reinforce and in effect con stitute parts of the plow standards.
It will be readily seen that with my improvements the frame may be easily adjusted in width so as to space the plow bases different distances apart and at the same time expand or contract the frame in width.
A bracket 11 embraces the overlapping members 9-9 centrally between the sides of the frame and said bracket is provided with forwardly projecting cars 12. A similar bracket 13 embraces the forward overlapping frame members 55 centrally between the sides of the frame and this bracket is provided with downwardly projecting arms or cars 14;. A draft beam 15 is connected at its rear end to the bracket 11 by means of a bolt passing through the cars 12 of said bracket and through the rear portion of said beam. The draft beam also passes between the ears 14L- of the bracket 18 and is secured thereto by means of a bolt 16. The draft beam extends forwardly beyond the front end of the frame and the bracket 13 attached thereto and at its fore ward end, suitable coupling devices 17 are attached for connection of the lister with a tractor. Braces 18 are connected at their forward ends with the forward portion of the draft beam and at their rear ends with the forward frame members near the juncture of the latter with the side members or beams 1-42.
My improved frame is adaptable, not only for use with a draft beam to be connected with a tractor but it is also adapted for connection therewith of draft means with which draft animals may be hitched. Such draft means are indicated in Figures i and 5. in this construction a draft beam 19 is connected at its rear end with the bracket 11 and intermediate of its ends with upwardly projecting arms 20 on a bracket 21 embracing the forward frame members 5-5. It will be observed that the draft beam 19 extends somewhat upwardly and forwardly and its forward end is bent downwardly as shown at 22 and has secured thereto a sleeve bracket 23. This sleeve Ill) bracket receives the spindle 24 of a forward carriage 25, said spindle being vertically adjustable relatively tosaid sleeve bracket. The carriage spindle is held in any desired adjustment by means of clamps 27 at the rear ends of the arms 28 of a clevis 29. The forward end of the frame and the draft beam are thus sustained by the said forward carriage and suitable hitch means for a team may be connected with the clevis 29.
The draft beam 19 will preferably be connected with the forward members 5-5 -of the frame by means of brace rods 30.
While I have shown and described two forms of draft means for which my improved adjustable frame is adapted, it is to be understood that other forms of draft beam constructions may be connected with the frame in substantially the manner hereinbefore described in connection with the particular draft devices shown in the draw ings. a
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a plow structure, the combination of side frame members having integral, overlapping front frame members, flanged blocks disposed between the overlapping members, said overlapping members each having a plurality of bolt holes, bolts to pass through the overlapping members and said flanged blo lis, rear brace members be-- tween the side members and having" overlapping perforated portions, flanged blocks disposed between said overlapping portions, bolts passing through said overlapping por tions of said blocks, brackets embracing the forward and rear overlapping portions of the frame, and a draft beam connected with both of said brackets.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
LEON VANE KINGSBURY.
