"HERMAN E. HANSON, 0F BROKEN BOVJ, IVEBBASLL.A
Application filed June 15?,
This invention relates to grates of the foldable type and more particularly to a grate for camping purposes.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a grate that is capable of being folded to a small compact size and when set up in open position will support a maximum number of cooking utensils and the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a grate for camping purposes that is light in weight and that can be folded to be conveniently carried in a small space.
Another object of the invention is to provide a grate having supporting legs which are so associated with the body of the grate that said legs are capable of being retained at right angles to the body when the grate is disposed in open position.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, i1- lustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the grate which forms the subject matter of the present invention and showing the same in open position.
Figure 2 is a side elevation arranged in folded position.
Referring to the drawings in detail the reference numerals 1 and 2 indicate sectional longitudinal bars for the body portion of the grate and which as shown include a plurality of sections hingely secured together by hinges of the type as shown at 3 and 4. lhe hinge 8 is of the usual type and includes flat pivoted portions secured to the sections as shown in Figure 1, while the hinge 4 is formed from right angled shape plates 5 having a portion of each plate secured to the sections while the remaining of the grate 1925. Serial No. 115,59,
portions of the hinge are bearings for the hinge pin 6.
Secured to the longitudinal sectional bars by rivets 7 or like means are transverse strips 8 and the strips which overlie the confronting ends of the sections of the bars 1 and 2 are secured to one section only so as to ailow the sections to be folded upon themselves as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
The supporting legs 9 are secured to the outer ends of the outermost sections of the bars 1 and 2 through the instrumentality of hinges 10, and these legs 9 are hingedto the sections so that when they are arranged in open position, the upper ends of the legs will engage the under surface of the sections so as to brace the legs in open position as will be readily apparent.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that the grate which forms the subject matter of the present invention can be folded into very small compact size, whereby it can be conveniently carried, and the sections of the bars 1 and 2 are so hinged and associated with the transverse strips 8 that they are retained in the position shown in Figure 1 for supportlng a maximum weight.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that 1 may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several in the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A icldable grate 01" the character de scribed comprising a body formed of sectional bars, hinges for securing the sections of 90 said bars together strips having their ends secured to said bars and some of said strips being fixed to some of said sections and adapted to overlie adjacent sections in a man- I I" nor for retalning the sections in end to end relation when the grate is set up, and legs secured to the end section or each bar 111 a manner to be placed 111 vertical posltlon.
formed to provide $9 part-s, provided that such changes :Esll with 2. A foldable grate of the character described comprising a body including longitudinal bars formed in sections, strips having their ends secured to said bars, hinges securing the sections of said bars and said sections being associated with some of said strips in a manner whereby the sections are braced in open position and capable of being folded in superposed relation, and legs hingedly secured to the end section of each of said bars in a manner to be folded against the adjacent strips and also to be placed in a Vertical position When the grate is disposed to open position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HERMAN F. HANSON.
