JOHN C. SKALA, OF NEX?? YCREI, N. Y.
SHADE BRACKET.
Application filed December 15. 25.
This invention relates to shade brackets and has 'lor its primary object the provision ot' such an article particularly adapted tor the reception ot the tiat pintle upon one end ot a conventional shade roller, and being so constructed as to prevent the accidental disengagement oi this pintle in an upward direction with respect to the bracket and consequently result in the falling oiE 'the curtain. Y
An additional object is to provide means r-:hereby the said tlat pintle may be readily 'torced into engagement with the bracket without requiring the manual manipulation ot any mechanism and wherein the said dat pintle may be readily removed trom 'the bracket upon a simple manipulation ot a locking member comprising the essential part thereot'.
.i stiil iiurther object is to provide a bracket ot this character that may be manutactured and marketed in a relatively cheap manner, the same comprising but few parts, and these are so correlated as to substantially nulli'ty any liability ot the same becoming out ot order.
lith the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature ot the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel lorm, combination, and arrangement ot parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in theaccompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front side elevation of my novel shade bracket.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation ot the bracket.
Figure 3 is a front elevation thereof, and
Figure t is a perspective of a slightly modified form of bracket.
First having` reference to Figures 1 to Inclusive` my novel shade bracket constitutes the provision ot' a relatively small and substantially square shaped hollow sheet metal casing 5, that is open at its inner side, and provided at the upper and lower edges at said inner side with laterally extending ears 6 6 provided with openings 7 in order that the same nia-y be readily secured to the inner edges ot a window frame when it is desired to mount the shade carried by the roller A, between said side bars ot the trame.
The Viront wall ot the casing 5 is formed at ils upper end with a vertical slot 8 within Serial No. 75,534.
which the fiat pintle B upon one end ot the roller A is adapted to pass, this slot com municating at its upper end with a cross slot 9 in the top wall ot' the casing in order to permit ot the sliding of said pintle into the slot.
In order that the pintle B will be held in vert-ical' movement within the slot S after association with the bracket, I provide an L- shaped arm 10 mounted within the casing 5 directly in back ot' the front wall thereof, one end of the horizontal portion ot the arm being provided with a 'flatA lug- 11 that is adapted to project through an opening iu the outer side wall ot the casingv while the other end oi1 said horizontal arm is provided with a pin 12 that extends into an opening in the inner side o't said casing as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3. Surrounding the pin 12 between said inner side wall and the vertical portion ot' the arm is an eX- pansible coil spring 13 that normally mainA tains the L-shaped arm in the position shown in Figure Q in order that the bevel and shouldered end; 14; of said vertical portion of the arm will overlie the slot4 8, and retain the pintle B beneath the shoulder until said arm is slid rearwardly by pressure upon the lug 11.
In Figure 4 I have disclosed a similar type of bracket, but in this instance the construction of the same is slightly modified in order that the bracket may be disposed upon the outer side ot the proper window frame bar. In this instance, the bracket comprises a relatively square flat-like casing 5 open at its inner end and provided with years 6-6 similar to the ears 6 6 in the Yform of the invention shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3. In this instance the inner side Wall and top wall of the casing are formed with communicating slots 8 and 9 tor receiving the pintle B of the roller A. Within the casing is disposed a latch mechanism similar in all respect to the latch mechanism shown in the form ot the invention disclosed in Figures 1, Q and 3.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple, and eiiicient form ot' shade bracket that will effectively maintain the flat pintle upon one end ot' a convention al shade roller within the bracket until the same is manually removed therefrom.
Minor changes may be made in the inven tion without departing 'from the spirit and scope ot the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what 'l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is n a shade braclet of the character described, a hollow casing adapted to be secured to a WindouT frame for receiving the fiat pintle upon one end of a conventional shade roller7 the front Wall ot' the casing beprovided vWith a slot which extends downwardly from the top thereof tor permitting the pintle to entendV therethrough into the casing, and displaceable means Within the casing tor securing the pintle within said slot, said means comprising a substantially L-shaped latch member, a hook formed on the upper end ot' the Vertical arm of said L- ehaped latch member adapted for engagement with the upper edge of the tlatpintle, a` pin extending trom the inner end olf the horizontal arm ot the L-shaped latch me1nber, the outer end of said pin being adapted tor slidable movement through the adjacent side Wall of the casing, a handle portion formed on the forward outer end ot the horizontal arm of the Lshaped latch member and extending through the opposite sides of the casing, and a coil spring disposed on said pin between the first mentioned side Wall ot the casing and the vertical arm ot the latch member for normally holding the latch member in engagement With said pintle.
ln testimony Wliereot atiix my signature.
