NOZZLE.
Application filed June 6, 1925. Serial No. 35,5382.
This invention relates to'douche nozzles and more particularly to such nozzles as are adapted for cleansing and irrigating and conveying liquid medicaments to the interior portions of the vaginal cavity.
Vith ordinary methods of irrigation. the interstices formed by the overlapping folds of the membranous'walls of the cavity are not reached by the jets and sprays used, and it has previously been proposed to dilate or distend the interior tract by means of separate instruments whereby the n'iedicaments may reach every portion of the folds of the membrane. Devices have also been pro posed which are adapted to be associated with the douche nozzle to effect such dilation, but these devices have generally involved mechanical movements and have been expensive of manufacture and difficult of cleansing or when impositive in their nature that is, not involving mechanical movements to effect dilation of the vagina they have lacked durability.
The present invention seeks to provide a combined dilator and douche nozzle which shall be impositive in its nature, may be effectively used without distress or danger to the inexperienced individual user and which shall not impede the outflow of the cleansing or healing medium, while at the same time) it shall be capable of thorough cleansing and be practicalv from the standpoint of ease and cheapness of manufacture. Accordingly a nozzle is provided havinga separate dilator adapted to he slipped thereon and which may besecured together by means of a perforated tip, the nozzle and dilator being preferably made of metal and being easily separable for cleansing and sterilization and the dilator being so formed as to effect dilationof the vaginal cavity in an easy and gentle manner to the requisite degree.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood the same will now be described more fully with reference to the accompanying drawings illustrating a bodiment thereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the vaginal douche and dilator according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view, partly in section, on an enlarged scale, showing the manner in which the dilator is positively secured on the douche nozzle by means of the perforated tip.
. ament.
preferred emis not impeded;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View of the dilator taken in the plane'indicated by the line 33 in Fi ure l and lookino in the direction of the arrows.
The douche nozzle is formed as a tube wnch is indicated in general at a and 1s passage a longitudinally posed outwardly of the end of the tube a" for the reception of a shoulder a formed on the end 0 of the dilator 0 The dilator c is formed of two spaced annular portions 0 0 of an interior diameter just sufficient to receive the tube a and spaced or conv .nec-ted by radially disposed fins 0 shown in the illustrated embodiment as four in number equally spaced from one another and provided with gently rounded outer surfaces as indicated at 0 wherebyno sharp edges are afforded which might tend to injure sensitivemembranes. The outer marginal surfaces of the webs 0 are also gently tapering from end to end rising from a substantially small height adjacent the annuli c and c and gradually increasing in height to the highest point, midway between the annuli, as shown clearly in Figure 1, whereby the nozzle may be inserted within the opening of the vagina and the latter gradually expanded or dilated as the nozzle advances, to open the interstices between the folds ,and permit an exposure of all of the interior surface to the fluid medicthus distended by the webs 0 provision is made in the spacing of the webs for the medicament'to flow freely outwardly therebetween, whereby the continuous discharge of the medicament from tie perforated tip 7 It will thus be seen that a durable nozzle has been provided comprising, in general, a tube, perforate tip, and dilator, which-are readily separablefor cleansing and sterilization. The nozzle may be formed of any While the walls of the cavity are convenient material although it is deemed advantageous to form both tube and dilator of metal which Will not be affected by the high temperature used in sterilization.
Various modifications in the configuration, composition and manner of associating the component elen'ients of the douche nozzle may occur to those skilled .ir the art and are to be deemed to be Within the scope of the present invention.
hat I claim is:
1. In a douche nozzle, in combination. a tub J a separable perforate tip. a separate dilatoi: comprising spaced annuli having an interior diameter suiiieient to receive the tube and spaced curved Webs extending between the annuli, and means to secure the dilator in position over the tube.
2. In a douche nozzle in combination, a
tube, a separable perforate tip, a separate dilator comprising spaced annuli having an interior diameter suiiicient to receive the tube and spaced curved Webs extending between the annuli and means to secure the dilator in position over the tube through the instru- June A. D., 1925.
