COMBINED RECEPTACLE AND BELT BUCKLE.

This invention relates to a combined receptacle and belt buckle; and has for its object to provide a receptacle. having belt-err gaging means mounted on its rear lace for retaining the belt in adjusted position about the lmdy ot' the wearer.

YWith these and other objectsrin view, the invention consists of certain novel features ot construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

It is found in practice of advantage to provide a combined receptacle and belt buckle in which the receptacle is mounted on or forms a portion of the liront plate ol the buckle and is ot a width substantially that of the belt and of a size to cover or conceal the belt-engaging member and yet be large enough to conif'eni'ently house an important paper such as for instance an auto drivers license which should always be with the operator of a car; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention and showing one construction by which these advantageous results may be accomplished `With reference to the drawings7 10 designates the front plate of a. buckle body, having inwardly turned side flanges 11 in which a clamping member l2 is pivotally mounted on a pivot pin 13, the clamp bar being provided with a bail member 14 hav- .ing an eye 15 through which one end 16 of the belt is passed and secured, the free end 1T oli' the belt being adapted to pass beneath Serial No. 745,992.

the clamp bar 12 by which is bound against the back plate of the receptacle to releasably retain this free end in adjusted position. In order to provide a suitable receptacle for retaining such small articles as an auto license or other small document or de rice which it is important or desired to be continually carried about on the person, I have preferably formed the Jfront plate of the belt buckle to serve as the rear plate of the receptacle 18 and to one edge 19 of this receptacle, I have hinged as at 2() a lid member 21 which is held in closed po sition by a catch on the body member, whereby when closed it will be snapped shut. In both the body portion and the lid oi this receptacle, I preferably liorni an iuwardly-extending resilient lip member 23 and 24 under which the end ot' the document or article may be tricked to hold it firmly therein. In some instances instead of hinging the. lid 9.1 to the body ot the receptacle, I space the back and front plates of the body apart and in this space I mount a sliding member Q5 which is provided with inturned opposite edges or flanges Q6 and an inturned flange or end 27 under which flanges the document or device to be mounted in the receptacle, may be retained in position in the slide member. This slide is provided with a laterally-extending operating linger 28 adapted to extend through a slot 29 in the edge wall ot the receptacle, which operating linger may be engaged by the thumb of the operator to move the slide either' to or from its housed position in the receptacle.

My improved combined receptacle and belt buckle is very practical in its construction and operation, is very useful in that itcan carry articles which should be constantly with the wearer and also may be formed very handsome and attractive in appearance and takes but little room.

I have shown and described a clamp form of buckle mounted onthe back of a receptacle but I do not desire to be restricted to that particular form of buckle as any suitable construction of belt engaging device rlhe foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illust-rated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the` mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.

I claim:

l. A belt buckle comprising a front plate with rearwardly-bent side Hanges having a slot in one ott said flanges, belt engaging means attached to the rear laceo't' said plate for releasably retaining a belt in different adjusted positions, said plate being substantially the Width o1 the'belt and positioned to conceal said engaging means, a member slidingly mounted between said lianges and having a portion projection outwardly through said slotto movetlierein .and ble guided thereby whereby said member may be moved to expose its contents.

2. A belt buckle con'iprismg a front plate with rearwardly-bent side flanges having a slot in one of said flanges, belt engaging means attached to the rear face or' said plate 'for releasably retaining a belt in di'fferent adjusted positions, said plate being substantially the Width of the belt and positioned to Vconceal said engaging means, a member slidingly mounted between said flanges and having a portion projecting outwardly through said Slot to move therein and be guided thereby, whereby said meinber may be moved Ito expose its contents, said member having its edges folded over to form a pocket for retaining a card or the like theren.
