HOOD ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December This invention relates to new and useful improvements ina hood attachment.
One object of the invention is to produce an attachment for a motor vehicle hood designed to prevent the leakage of water through the hood onto the wiring and spark plugs of the vehicle motor beneath.
With the above and other objects in View this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a plan view of a motor vehicle hood showing the attachment applied thereto and partly broken away.
Figure 2 shows a cross sectional view thereof on the line 22 of Figure l, and
Figure 3 shows an enlarged cross sectional view of the attachment. 7
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures the numeral 1 designates the hood as a whole. This hood is jointed longitudinally along the top, in the usual way, forming the hinge joint 2. This joint, in some 15, 1925. Serial No. 75,545.
makes of motor vehicles, is not watertight and in case of rain the water is permitted to leak through the joint onto the motor wiring and spark plugs causing a short circuit of the electric current.
In order to avoid this leakage the attachmentherein described, has been provided. This attachment comprises a long guard strip, 3, concavo-convex in cross sectional contour and arranged lengthwise of and above the joint 2, so as to lie over said joint and with its convex side upwardly. At one edge this guard strip has a plurality of spaced lugs at, hinged thereto, turned inwardly and riveted or otherwise secured to the hood 1. These lugs hold the guard strip in place without interfering with the flexibility of the hood along its joint 2.
What I claim is The combination with a motor vehicle hood having a lengthwise joint, of aguard strip hinged at one edge to the hood and disposed lengthwise .of and over said joint.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name.
JOSEPH A. GOETHE.
