JOI-IN J. KILLALEE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA., ASSIGNOR TO BUCKINGHAM c RECHT, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, A. CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA.
SHOE.
Application filed August 18, 1924.
The invention relates to apparel shoes.
An object of the invention is to provide a shoe into which the entry of moisture or sand or other material from without the shoe is prevented. D
Another object of the invention is to provide means for preventing the entry of moisture into the shoe through the welt .seam or other seams disposed adjacent the lower portion of the shoe.
The invention possesses other advantageous features, some of which with the foregoing, will be set forth at length 1n the following description, where I shall `outline in full that form of my invention which I have selected for illustration in the draw ings accompanying and forming partof the present specification. In sai-d drawings I have shown one form of shoe embodying my invention, but it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to such form, since the invention, as set forth in the claims, may be embodied in a plurality of forms.
In accordance with my invention, I prevent the entry of moisture or sand into the shoe fromwithout by forming a watertight lining within the shoe, such lining completely covering the insole and the vamp lof the shoe so that moisture cannot enter the shoe below the line of vamping.
The invention is disclosed in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a plan of one form of blank which is lasted into shape to form the inner lining of the shoe.
Figure 2 is a phantom perspective view of one type of shoe showing the inner lining of my invention arranged therein.
Figure 3 is a vertical cross section through the toe of a shoe provided with the inner lining of my invention.
In accordance with my invention, I arrange within the shoe, a substantially watertight inner lining which completely covers the insole of the shoe and which extends upward within the shoe to any desirable height, preferably to at least as high as the line of vamping. rIhis lining produces a substantially watertight supplementary shoe within the shoe and since the stitching of the Serial No. 732,638.
shoe does not penetrate the inner lining, the lining is substantially watertight. The shape of the blank 2 from which the inner lining is formed, depends largely upon the style or character of the shoe and also depends upon the height to which it is desired to carry the inner lining within the shoe. The blank 2 shown in the drawing is formed to extend upward in the shoe to the vamping. The vamping is the line of stitching 8 by which the vamp 4 is secured to the quarter 5. The blank 2 is cut from a substantially watertight material such as soft, pliable leather, and is lasted on a suitable last, conforming to the size and style of the shoe to be mad-e. rfhe outer edges 6 of the blank are brought together on the under side of the last and are secured together by a line of stitching 7. The seam thus formed is coated with a waterproof cement or other suitable waterproof material to prevent the entry of moisture through the seam. The insole 8 is then adhesively attached to the underside of the lining and the shoe is then lasted and completed in the usual manner.
The inner lining 9 formed from the blank 2 completely covers the insoles 8 and completely covers the inner surface of the toe 12 of the shoe and extends backward along the sides or vamp or quarters of the shoe, forming a watertight lining which completely surrounds the lower part of the foot when the foot is inserted in the shoe, This watertight lining may extend upward and constitute a lining for the quarters 5 or it may terminate at the vamping. The waterproof lining is thus interposed between the welt seams and other seams disposed adjacent the lower portion of the shoe, so that moisture or sand or other material is prevented from entering the inside of the slice and contacting with the foot, thereby providing a substantially watertight shoe into which the entry of water from without below the vamping is minimized.
I claim:
1. A shoe provided with the usual sole, insole and vamp, a on-e piece lining completely covering the inner surfaces of said insole and vamp and extending the entire length of Hfs I itil) the shoe, a. single seam in said lining overlength of tlie shoe7 a ,single Waterproof seein lying said insole, said lining being adliein said lining overlying said insole, said sively secured to said insole. lining being adliesively secured to said in- 10 2. A shoe provided With the usual sole, Sole. l insole and vamp, :i one piece lining eoin- In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set pletely covering tli'e inner surfaces of said my hand. insole and vamp and extending the entire JOHN J. KILLALEE.
