Description

G. B. S'TETSON.
Screw-Plate.
No.160 362. Patented March 2,1875.
THE GRAPHIC CO.PHOTO.-LITN.39&4I PARK PLAOE,N.Y.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OFFICE,
GEORGE R. STETSON, OF NEW BEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCREW-PLATES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,362, dated March 2, 1875; application filed January 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. STETsoN, of New Bedford, Bristol county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Screw-Plates, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is partly a plan view, and partly a horizontal section, of adie-plate contrived with my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional clevation of Fig. 1, on the line 00 00. 1
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the die-plate; B, the guides or ways, and O the dies. The ways are each fixed on a pivot, D, at the side of the opening next to the adjusting-screw E, so that they can swing out of the opening freely at the other end, as indicated in Fig. 2, to facilitate the changing of the dies, and at the opposite side of said opening is a stud, F, which enters a socket in the back of the die to fasten the dies and the Ways in Working position,
The stud may be on the die, and the hole in the plate, if preferred.
I have arranged the pivots of the Ways on the side of the opening having the adjustingscrew and the locking contrivance on the opposite side, because it is the most favorable for simplicity and economy of construction, on account of the adjusting-screw serving to keep them locked, While serving its own purpose. But it is manifest that they may be reversed, provided some other means of lockin g be employed.
I am aware that sliding dies, held on hinged guides in a screw-plate, are not new; but
What I claim is The combination, with the solid integral screw-plate A, hinged guides B, separate from but hinged to the die-plate, and dies 0, of the stud F, entering a socket in the rear of one die, and the screw-bolt E, working through a not of dieplate against the other die, as and for the purpose specified.
GEORGE E. STETSON.
