Application filed January 11, 1928. Serial No. 80,443.
My invention relates to an improved device. designed for application to and use in combination with the of spinning machines, preventing rollerlaps bottom delivery rolls with the object of or fibre being wound at all times.
The invention comprlses a reciprocating bar on one side of which is felt or other fibrous slidably mounted in spring ings adjacent to the of felt is in rubbing face of the roll and a requlsite amount of pressure between the clearer the action of the springs on maintained by the bearlngs.
fixed a strip of material. The bar is controlled bearroll so that the strip contact with the surand roll is Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specifioati tional elevation on line onFigure 1 is a sec- 1-1 in Figure 2 of a fragmentary portion of a worsted spinning frame roll stand rolls stationed thereon clearer applied theret a plan view of Figure means for lmparting ment to the clearer bars.
larged rear elevation means. Figure 1 is end elevation on ing the clearer bar in its the surface of the roll. elevation of Figure 4. tional elevation on line showing a series of delivery with my improved 0. Figure 2 which is 1, shows my improved a reciprocating move- Figure 3 is an enof the reciprocating an enlarged sectional line H of Figure 2 shoW proper relation to Figure 5 is a rear Figure 6 is a sec- 66 of Figure 2 showing a fragmentary view of the lever and its fulcrum and connection with the roving traverse motion. V
In the embodiment of the invention shown in the accompanying drawings, it is illustrated as applied to the bottom carrier rolls ,of an ordinary and worsted spinning in well known type of achine. Inasmuch as the invention appertains solely to the roll cleaning. device, and as rangement and operation of worsted spinning machines are tion of the latter is The said roll cleaner well known, no descripdeemed to be necessary.
comprises abar 10 of either wood or metal having a strip of fibrous material 11 fixed contact with the's urface of the drawing roll The bar 1s slidably mounted 13 swingabl r a n gag) ra' thereto in rubbing e on trunnione 14; on

the spring hangers 15 fixed to the carrier roll bearing brackets 16 which are slidably mounted on the roll stands 17 The resiliency of the spring hangers forces the bar into contact with the roll surface, thereby maintaining the latter in a clean condition at all times. The operation of cleaning the roll is rendered more effective by imparting a reciprocating motion to the bar 10 which I accomplish by suitable connecting means between the bar and some continuous moving part of the machine, preferably the roving traverse motion commonly used on spinning machine such as shown in Figure 3, wherein the back drawing roll 18 transmits rotary motion to the shaft 19 by means of the worm QO'flXGLl to the roll coacting with the gear 21 to said shaft, the shaft being supported in the hanger 22 fixedly connected to the back bar 23 which is bolted to back roll brackets 24 slidably mounted on roll stands 17. A cam 25 fixed to the shaft 19 coacts with the follow roll 26 rotatable on a stud 27 fixed to the roving traverse bar 28 which is slidably mounted in bearings formed in the bases of the back roll brackets 24. The follow roll is held in constant con tact with the working surface of the cam by traverse bar 28 and stationary back bar 23. By this construction the roving traverse bar slides back and forth in its bearings to an extent determined by the eccentricity of the ca'm.
In order to impart a reciprocating motion to the clearer bars 10 a finger 3O fastened to the roving traverse bar 28 coacts with a slot 31 in the rear end of a lever 32 which is supported on a stud 33 swingably mounted in an ear 34 fixed to the back bar 23. The front end of said lever coacts with finger 35 in fixed relation with the clearer the tension spring 29 connected between motion of the roving traverse bar imparts a like motion to the clearer bar with the result that the surface of the roll is kept free from lint and oil which if allowed to accumulate would be detrimental to the quality of yarn being produced.
I claim:
A drawing roll cleaner for spinning machines comprising a bar having a strip of fibrous material affixed thereto in rubbin contact with the surface of the drawing 1 01f, marable in a atar the has is slid ably mounted, a spring coacting With each bearing to press the bar against the surface of the roll, a lever, a fulcrum on which said lever is swingable, a connecting finger between the clearer bar and the lever, and a connection between the lever and the roving traverse bar whereby the reciprocating movement of the latter actuates the lever and imparts a reciprocating motion to the clearer bar. W
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
ELLIS HARTLEY.
