This invention relates to air registers and more particularly to that type of air control register used in fuel burners in which atomization of the fuel is produced by centrifugal force in a whirling chamber and the fuel injected into a combustion chamber through the atomizer tip in the form of a hollow cone, and has for its object to produce a device for control of the air delivered to the combustion chamber and to direct it so that the entering air cuts through the fuel cone breaking u the atomized fuel, penetrating the center 0 the fuel cone and assuring immediate combustion of all the atoms of fuel both inside and outside the cone.
Another object of my invention is to produce a more eflicient air control device so that more oil can be burned per unit of time with the least draft and without sinoke.-
It is well known that combustion of oil at high rates can only be produced by atomization of the oil into fine particles. If the smallparticles are far enough apart to permit being completely surrounded with the, proper amount of oxygen, complete and perfect combustion will result, and" one of the objects of my invention is'to bring about this result.
The foregoing and other features of my invention will now be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which I have represented my air register in its preferred form, after which I shall point out more particularly in the claims those features which I believe to be new and of my own invention.

In the carrying out of my invention, the r refractory wall 1 of any suitable furnace, is provided with a circular opening 2 into which a conical annular ring 3 is secured by convenient means such as bolts 4 to the front late 5. The end of the frusto conical member 8 nearest the combustion chamber is a plane surface provided with openings 10 and a reduced cylindricalportion or sleeve 11 is adapted'to receive the burner 12 which is arranged to slide within the sleeve 11 for adjustment of the relative position of the atomizer tip 13 with respect to the wall of the combustion chamber as will be readily understood. The burner may be of any well known type provided with fuel supply connection 14. Mounted on the sleeve 11 and adapted to slide and rotate on the axis I provide a disk or front plate 15 designed to control the air entering between the conical members.
In the hub 21 of the front plate 15 a pin 22 is provided adapted to engage a spiral groove 20 in the face of the sleeve 11 to guide the front plate in a rotatable and slidable manner to and from the register front when moved by handle 23.
Adjacent the end of the frusto conical member 8 I provide a shutter .16 with a series of openings 30 similar to openings 10. The shutter 16 has a handle 31 extending outside the front plate 15 and may be set in adjusted position by the set screw 32 locking the bandle 31 to the guide way 33 secured to the conical ring 3. This shutter in rotating opens and closes the openings 10 in the frusto conical member as will be readily understood, for the control of air adjacent the burner tip.
From the foregoing description it will be restriction at the combustion chamber end,
not unlike the converging nozzle used in elastic fluid turbines of the impulse type for conve'rting pressure into velocity. The air forcombustion in flowing through a passage so proportioned will expand adlabatically to the lesser ressure existing at the throat and issue uni ormly as a continuous stream possessed ofa definite velocity in a direction convergentto the flame so that it will penetrate the conical layer of ignited fuel flowing from the burner and enter the furnace as a highly incandescent gaseous mixture.

of a conical spray into a combustion chamber, a frusto-conical ring-like member adapted to fit into an opening in the front of the combustion chamber, a second frusto conical member in spaced relation thereto, a plurality of spirally arranged deflector plates interposed between the two frusto conical members, a sleeve on the inner frusto conical member adapted to slidably receive the atomizer, and the connecting portion between the sleeve and the inner member being provided with a plurality of openings adapted to deliver air adjacent the atomizer tip, rotatable means to control the passage of air through said openings, and a rotatable and slidable means to control the passage of air through the space between the conical members.

An air control register comprising an atomizer adapted to deliver fuel in the shape of a conical spray into a combustion chamber, a frusto conical member adapted to fit into an opening in the combustion chamber, a second frusto conical member in spaced relation thereto, and a plurality of spirally arranged deflector plates interposed between and connecting the frusto conical members and adapted to direct the air to the combustion chamher so that it impinges upon the cone of fuel.
3. A device as recited in claim 2 with the addition of means for controlling the amount of air entering. between the frusto conical members.
4. An air control register comprising a member adapted to surround an atomizer and having a lurality of openings to deliver air adjacent t e atomizer tip, rotatable means for controlling the passage of air through said openings, a second member adapted to fit into an openin in the furnace front, a plurality of s ira ly arranged deflector plates interposed etween the two members, and rotatable and slidable means for the control of the passage of the air between the deflector plates.
5. An air control register comprising an outer frusto conical ring like member adapted to be secured to a furnace front, an inner frusto conical member, a. series of spirally arranged partitions securing the two members together, and means for controlling the passage'of air between the partitions.

An air control register comprising an outer frusto conical ring like member adapted to be secured to a furnace front, an inner frusto conical member, a series of spirally arranged partitions securing the two members together, and rotatable and slidable means for controlling the passage ofair between the partitions.
7. An air control register comprising an outer frusto-conical ring-like member adapted to be secured to a furnace front, an inner frusto-conical member provided with a sleeve like projection, a series of spirally arranged partitions securing the two mem bers together, and a rotatable and slidable member mounted on the sleeve like projection of the inner member to regulate the passage of air between the inner and outer members.

An air control register comprising an atomizer adapted to deliver fuel in the sh ape of a conical spray into a combustion chamher, a frusto-conical ring-like member adapt ed to fit into an opening in the front of the combustion chamber, a second frusto conical member in spaced relation thereto, a plurality of spirally arranged deflector plates interposed between the two conical members, a sleeve on member ada ted to slidably receive the atomizer, and the connecting portion between the sleeve and the inner member bein provided with a plurality of openings a apted to deliver air adjacent the atomizer tip, rotatable means to control the passage of air through said openings, and means to control the passage of air through the space between thefrusto conical members.

An air control register comprising an outer frusto conical ring-like member adapt ed to be secured to a furnace front, an inner frusto conical member carried b the first and closed at its inner end except or a series of air openings, and means supported upon said inner member for controlling the passage of air through said openings.

An air control register comprisin an outer frusto conical ring-like member a apted to be secured to a. furnace front, an inner frusto conical member carried by the first and closed at its inner end except for a series of air openings, means supported upon said inner member for controlling the passage of air through said openings, and means for controlling the passage of air between the two frusto conical members.
- 12. An air control register comprisin two inwardly tapering coaxial frusto conica members having their outer edges lying in the same plane, means supported upon said inner member for controlling the passage of air therethrough, and means for controlling the passage of air between said members.
13. An air register for fuel burners comprising two air supply tubes one of which is housed within the other to provide an air passage between them, a plate and means for moving the same to control the air through said passage, the inner of said the inner frusto conical tubes having an end wall with openings therein, and means for regulating the flow of air through said openings.
14. An air register for fuel burners comprising two frusto conical tubes one of which is housed within the other to provide an air passage between them, a plate and means for moving the same to open and close said passage, said plate having openings to permit air to flow therethrough to the inner of said tubes, said inner tube having an end wall with openings therein, and a damper for regulating the flow of air through said end wall openings.

An air register for fuel burners comprising two tubes one of which is housed within the other to provide an air passage between them, theinner of said tubes having an end wall with an opening therein adapted to receive a burner tube, said end wall also having openings for the flow of air therethrough, means for regulating the flow of air throughsaid end wall openings, a
plate, and means for moving the same to open and close the passage between the tubes.
