IMPROVEMENT IN CRADLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,767. dated November 9, 1875; application filed August 4, 1875. v
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, MARTIN V. BORGMAN and WILLIAM F. LAMSON, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvementin Cradles, of which the following is a'specitication:
()ur invention has for its object to so construct a rocking crib or cradle as to combine great strength and durability with the least weight-and the greatesteconomy in cost; and to this end it consists in making the top rail and legs of each side from one or more pieces ot'timber bent to the proper shape, the ends or legs being secured to the rockers, and in combination therewith, an arched end frame bent from a single piece with a girt between its ends, which serves as an end rail, the said end frame being secured to and between the side standards, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is an end elevation.
In the drawing, A represents the top-rail of each side, preferably a single Wooden bar, bent at each end at a right angle, as near as may be, the pendent ends A forming the supportingstandards, and are mortised into the rockers B. O is the side rail, mortised at the the standards A A, and secured thereto by two wood-screws, a, through each. Spindles are mortised into the end frame and its girtrail to fill in the end frame. The slats F are sprung into sockets mortised in the inner faces of the end rails E.
This cradle is, as will be readily seen, very light, cheap to manufacture, and must necessaril y be strong and durable.
What we claim as our invention is- In a cradle, substantially as described, the bent side rails having their ends secured to the rockers, and the combination therewith of the bent end frames, substantially as shown and set forth.
