PATENT OFFICE.
EDITH R. HEINTZ, F CINCINNATI, OHIO.
SEPARAIBLE FASTENER.
Application filed April 30, 1926. Serial No. 105,816.
This invention relates particularly to a type of separable fastener which has been designed with an objectin view of forming a permanent terminal to one or both ends of a strap, and by which inadvertent unfastening positively prevented.
T hese and other objects are attained in the V separable fastener described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a composite perspective View of a separable fastener embodying my invention, with portions of a strap to be used therewith. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view of another form of a separable fastener embodying my invention.
Fig. 4; is'a View taken on the line 33 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a View similar to Fig. 4, but showing my separable fastener in open or receiving position.
Fig. 6 is a view duplicating Fig. 2 but showing the straps secured thereto.
My invention, as disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2 has a back or base plate 6 which has lugs 7, 8, 9 and 10 at its ends in which are journalled loops 11 and 12 to which the strap material at the end of the strap is secured, as by sewing or wire stitching as shown by dottedlines 34 in Fig. 1, the purpose of the strap material being to prevent the metal of the fastener from coming in contact with the flesh of the wearer. At the end adjacent to one loop is formed an integral centrally positioned hook 125, while in journals 14 and 15 on the base plate are pivoted the ends 16 and 17 of a clasp 18. This clasp has a finger 19 which facilitates the release of a snap fastener 20 which is located at the opposite end of the base 6, one element 21 of the fastener being secured to or formed on the base plate while cooperating element 22 is formed on or secured to the finger 19. The clasp 18, adj acent to its pivot, has continuations 23 and 2% of its ends, which are pressed upon by springs 25 and 26 struck from the base 6. These springs normally retain the clasp in closed position, but in order that retention of such a position may be assured, I have provided the snap fastener above described.
A loop which is preferably of wire, (see Fig. 1), is sewed or otherwise secured in the strap end 36 which is to cooperate with the fastener. This loop is placed over the clasp 18 an d upon book 13 so that the strap end is held thereon, snap fastener 20 preventing displacement.
In Figs. 3, 4 and 5 I have shown a slightly dii'ferent form of my improved separable fastener. Instead of having but one station ary hook the base 27 is provided with two stationary hooks 28 and 29 between which a clasp 30 having no forked end is pivoted. The manner of pivoting the clasp is the same as in the previously described form of my separable fastener, namely, in journals 31, with on extending end 32 which bears against a spring 33 struck from the base. The finger end 19 of the clasp is provided with a snap fastener element 22 which co-operates with the fastener completing element 21 as in the previously described construction. There are also the wire loops 11 and 12 which, in lugs 7, 8, 9, and 10, serve to attach the separable fastener as has been described. The manner of fastening the strap end 36 to the buckle is the same as has been described in the preced ing paragraph.
The operation'of the two forms of my above described invention is quite obvious it is be lieved and for this reason I will proceed immediately to the claim. I
Having thus described my invention what I claim is A separable fastener comprising a base.
plate, a substantially centrally positioned stationary hook at one end of the base plate, a forked clasp pivotally mounted at the hook end of the base plate with the hook between the branches of the fork, a spring adapted to 7 move the clasp toward the base plate, and snap fastener elements on the base plate and clasp adapted to secure the clasp relatively to the base plate to prevent displacement of an article from the hook.
In witness whereof, I afiix my signature.
EDITH R. HEINTZ.
