This invention relates to a dispensing machine of the coin-controlled type and, While the invention is capable of application for dispensing different kinds of articles. it is 5 particularly designed to dispense cylindrical articles such as the cardboard Containers used for containing milk and other l'iquids.'
It is an object of this invention to provide a device of simple andetlicient construction 10 adapted to contain a large number of articles or receptacles which may be singly dispensed in a simple and easy manner.
It is a further object of the invention to provide such a device'compri-sing a closed casing having therein a rotatable means carrying a plurality of magazines in which the articles to be dispensed are contained, to-
, get-her with means for moving said carrierv and projecting and delivering one of the articles or receptacles. 7

A partition 18 extends across casing'15 spaced some distance from the bottom thereof, which partition is substantially horizontal but has an oliset portion18 to accommodate certain opcrating parts in the casing. The chamber below partition 18 is adapted to form a refrigerating chamber and the same may contain some refrigerating apparatus or medium, such as the ice cake shown as B. The casing 15 is provided'at one side with a door 19 open ing into the chamber below partition 18,
whichdoor will be suitably hinged and pro vlded with a suitable locking mechanlsm. A
platform or plate 19 is also supported in casing 15 upon an angle bar 20 extending across one side of semi casing and by spaced bars 21 also extending acrosssaid casing.
A hearing block 22 is disposed on the partition 18 and a bearing block 23 is also supported above block 22 on the platform 19. The bearing block 22 supports an antifriction bearing 2 1, the upper member of which'is secured .to a shaft 25 journaled in the blocks 22 and 23 and in platform 19. An upper anti-friction bearing 24 also surrounds shaft 25, the upper member of which is secured to a rotatable table 26, and the lower I member of Which is supported by the hub of an arm 54: to be later described. The shaft 2 1 has secured thereto a beveled gear 27 adapted to mesh with a similar beveled gear 28 secured to a shaft 29 journaled in the bars 21, and also in a bearing block 32 disposed in the wall of the casing 15. The shaft 21 also has secured thereto a disk 30 which is shown as vertically disposed, and the lower end of whicl'i extends into the chamber or bracket formed by the offset portions 18 of partition 18. The shaft 29 also carries, outward of the disk 30, a gear 31. The gear 31 meshes with a smaller gear or pinion 33 secured to a shaft 3% also journaled in block 32 at one side of shaft 29 and the shaft 34 projects outward of the casing 15 and has a crank handle 35 secured thereto. A pawl pivoted to a small block on the inner wall of casing 15 co-operates with the gear 31- so that shaft 34 can be turned only in a clockwise direction by the crank 35. The disk 30 has secured thereto at some distance from its center, a weight member 87 and said disk is provided on its edge with a notch 30 and is further provided with an opening 30 illustrated as of rectangular form for a purpose to be later described. 7
The notch 80 is adapted to be engaged by the toothed end of a slide member 38 guided in a bracket 40 secured to the inner wall of casing 15, which slide'moves through a downwardly inclined narrow coin chute 41 which extends diagonally downward toward slide 38, said chute extending through the wall of casing 15 at its upper end and provided with an open horizontally disposed end outward of said casing. The slide 30 has a slot 38 therethrough, the upper surface of which is convexly curved to form a cam surface. Said chute below and at the inner side of the slide 38 extcnes into a coin receptacle 42. The chute has an intermediate downwardly curved portion 4.1 having a slot in its lower side through which is adapted to project a horizontal side 13 guided in a portion 40 of bracket 40. The slide 43 is normally held in a retracted position by a tension coiled spring ia; secured to its outer end and to one side of casing 15. Said slide 13 is adapted to be moved, however, by a handle 4-5 projecting laterally from one side thereof and extending through horizontal slot 15 in the wall of casing 15. As shown in Fig. 3, the bracket 40 is also constructed to form the bottom of the chute 41 adjacent slide 48. The table 26 supports a multiplicity of vertically disposed cylindrical magazines 16 and it will be noted that these magazines, as shown in Figs. 2 and 5, project over the edge of said table, said magazines having their lower portions cut away as indicated at 46, and also have openings 46 at their inner radial sides which openings are illustrated as of rectangular shape. Each of the magazines 4:6 is adapted to receive a plurality of superposed c 'lindrical articles ll such as cardi l board containers for milk. The table 26 is adapted to be locked in fixed position, and for this purpose the same carries on its lower surfaces a plurality of circumferentially spaced blocks 18, each having a central slot 48 therein. extending radially of the table 26. A sliding bar &9 is mounted in brackets 50 upstanding from platform 19 and has an upwardly extending projection or tooth 1-9 at its outer end adapted to enter the notches 18 The bar 49 has a pin 51 extending transversely therethrough and projecting at its sides against which presses one end of a compression coiled spring 52, the other end of said spring contacting the side of one of the brackets 50. Spring 52, therefore, normally tends to move bar 41-9 and bring tooth 49 into one of the slots 48 The inner end of bar 19 is adapted. to be contacted by a cam member 58 "having. an.
outer curved cam face, which member 53 projects from an arm 54 having a hub keyed to the shaft 25. Arm 54 also carriesa'n. outer hub in. which is vertically slidable a pin 55.
The pin 55 is adapted to be raised at intervals by a cam projection 19 mounted on platform 19. The table 26 is provided with a series of circumferentially spaced holes 26 said table being cut away at the lower side of said holes to form slots 26 having inclined upper surfaces, as shown in Fig. 8.
The upper end of shaft 25, above table26, has secured thereto an arm 56, above which and at the outer end of which is pivoted a link 57, the other end of said link being pivotally connected to and beneath a plunger 58 spaced some distance therefrom. The plunger 58 is mounted for sliding movement in a depending portion 59 of a bracket 59 extending across the bottom of lid 15 and having downwardly extending portions. at its side secured to the inner wallsof casing 15, the portion 59 being illustrated as having spaced sides for the greater portionof its length. The plunger 08 is provided with a head 58 having a concave forward portion and it will be noted that the central longitudinal axis of plunger 58 is radial with table 26 and that said concave portion of'plunger head 58 is'concentric-with the center of one of the magazines 46 when in the position shown in Fig. i.

As arm 54 is thus rotated, pin 55 moves upwardly on cam 19 When tooth 49 is moved out of slot 48, pin 55 encounters the end of vertical wallof the slot 26" and one of the holes 26 and begins torotate table 26 which rotates on the upper anti-friction bearing 24. a The rotation of table 26 continues until pin 55 moves off of cam 19, when said pin drops out of the slot 26" and ceases to operate said table. At this time the next notch 48 will be brought into alinement with tooth 49 and spring 52 again moves tooth 49 into said slot. The shaft 25 makes a complete rotation and, during this rotation arm 56, through its link 57, moves forward the plunger 58. This plunger58 movesoutwardly 1ts head 58, engages one of the articles or receptacles 47 in one of the magazines 46, and as said magazine isin alinement with chute 60,"sai'd plunger reaches its outmost position. The article orreceptacle 47 is thus pushed off of. table 26and slides down into chute 60, against disk 30. When opening 30- becomes alined with said chute.
upon further rotation of disk 30, said article will pass into the outer portion 60 of said chute. The operator can now lift door 61.
I and remove the article 47, it being noted that crank 35 is out of alinement with said door at this time. As the disk 30 is rotated, the slide 38 will again engage notch 30 and further rotation of crank 35 in said disk is prevented until'another coin is placed in the machine. The rotation of the disk 30 operates the counter 66 which is suitably adjusted to correctly count the numberof operations. Asst-ated, the interior of casing 15 is kept at a low temperature bythe refrigerating medium, such'as the ice B which canbe placed therein through the door 19.
From the above description it is seenthat applicant has provided an extremelyv simple andefficient dispensingmeans and onewhich has ahigh degree of utility for'storing and dispensing milk or other liquids in cartons. The machineis quite simple in construction and requires few manipulations by the operator. j The machine is such that it can be easily transported andplaced at the'desir'ed locations.- The machine can be located, in factories, office buildings, and similar establishments so that a large numberof' people can easily andquickly secure a bottle of milk or other liquid therefrom. The milk or liquid will be contained in cardboard or paper receptacles which may be discarded after use. It will thus'not be necessary to have an 'attendant at the machine and the owner of the machine will only have to replenish the same at intervals and collect the moneywhich is being deposited in the coin receptacle' 42. The machine, of course, will have "thereon an inscription on a plate, or otherwise, directing the operator how to manipulate the handle-45 and crank 55 after placing a coin in chute 41; a i 1 It will, of course, be understood, that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts'without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which, generally stated, consists in a, device capahle of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the novel parts and combinations of parts disclosed. and defined in the appended claims.
' What is claimed is: I
1. A dispensing machine of the character described, having in combination a casing, a rotatable tablethereon, a plurality of-magazines carried by said table, each of said magazines being adapted to contain a plurality a mechanism for locking said table in fixed position, a rotatable disk normally adapted to close said delivery chute, but having an opening therein for the discharge of the articles to be dispensed when said disk and said table are rotated to a certain predetermined position, and means for rotating said table and disk and pushing an article from said mechanism into said chute.

A dispensing machine of the character described having in combination, a casing, a rotatable table therein, a plurality of vertical magazines equally and circumferentially spaced and supported on said table, each adapted to contain a pluralityof superposed rotatable table therein, a plurality of magazines carried by said table, a delivery means, a cam-controlled mechanism for turning said table comprising a shaft about which said table rotates, an arm secured to said shaft having a cam therein, and a reciprocable member movable therein, spaced apertures in said table adapted to be successively engaged by said reciprocable member, a cam adapted to be engaged, by said pin to move the same,
and a spring-pressed locking member for said table adapted to be engaged and moved to inoperative posit-ion by said cam on said arm.
4. A dispensing machine of the character 'describedhaving in combination a casing, a
rotatable carrier therein, a plurality of circumferentially spaced magazines supported on said carrier, each adapted to contain a plurality of articles to be dispensed, means for rotating said carrier, a delivery chute, means for holding said carrier in position with a magazine aligned with said delivery chute, a rotatable disk normally adapted to cut off communication between the magazines, and
the delivery end of said chute, said disk be-- ing rotatable and having an opening therein adapted to be aligned, with said delivery chute to permit of an article being ejected therethrough, and means for pushing an article from said magazine through said opening in said disk and into the discharge portion of said chute.
5. A dispensing machine of the character described having in combination a casing, a
rotatable table therein, a plurality of magazines carried by said table, a fixed delivery chute extending from said table, means for aligning successive magazines with said chute, a disk having an aperture therein, said disk being adapted to be rotated to align said aperture with said-chute and with the spaced positions therein, each of said i'nagazines being adapted to hold a plurality of superposed articles, means operating said carrier from said shaft to turn said carrier the distance between adjacent magazines during one completerevolution of said shaft, a fixed chute which is always adapted to face one of said magazines when said carrier is at rest, and means operated by said shaft for pushing out upon said chute during the com plete revolution of said shaft, the lowermost article held in theparticular magazine opposite said chute.

The structure defined in claim. 6 and a revoluble disk between the outer portion of said chute and the magazines on said carrier, said disk being revoluble with said shaft and having an aperture therethrough to permit passage of an article to the outer portion of said chute when said aperture is aligned therewith.

A dispensing machine of the character described having in combination a casin a circular carrier having a plurality of magazinesv at a plurality of circumferential equally spaced positions thereon, each of said magazines being adapted to contain a plurality of superposed articles, a rotatable shaft, means operated by said shaft for rotating said carrier a distance equal to the distance between adjacent magazines on said carrier during every complete revolution of said shaft, a fixed chute outward from said magazine and a push arm operated by said shaft to push the lowermost article in one of said magazines into said chute during one complete rotation of said shaft.

A dispensing machine of the class described having in combination a casing, a rotatable tablet-hereon, a plurality of equally'spaced magazines carried by said table and adapted to contain'a plurality of superposed articles, I means normally holding said table in locked non-rotating position, means carried by said shaft for engaging said first mentioned means to unlock said table therefrom, means for simultaneously engagin said table to permit the same being turned with said shaft a distance equal to the distance between magazines, a chute with which a magazine is always adapted to be aligned "when said table is at rest, and an ejecting means operated by said shaft and'adapted to eject one of the a shaft about which said table turns,
articles from an aligned magazine into said chute during a. complete revolution of said shaft.
10. A dispensing machine of the class de scribed having in combination a casing, a rotatable tabletherein, a plurality of magazines carried by said table, a delivery means, means for rotating said table and an ejecting mechanism including a plunger, an arm rotatable with sand table and a link connecting said arm and said plungensaid ejecting means being adapted to eject an article from one of said magazines as said table is rotated.
