ARTICLE CARRIER.

This invention relates to an article car rier adapted to be used upon the top of an automobile machine and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

As illustrated in the accompanying draw ing, the article carrier comprises strip members 1 preferably of metal, adapted to be applied tothe sides of adjacent top bows 2. The said strip members are provided with hooks 3. Straps a, of webbing or elastic are provided at one end with loops 5 which are adapted to engage the hooks 3 and the intermediate portions of the straps are passed through loops 6 to which are connected the ends of coil springs 7. The outer ends of the springs 7 are hooked, as at 8, and the said hooked ends are adapted to be engaged with the hooks 3 carried by the opposite strip member 1.

The free end portion of each strap 4; is connected with a buckle frame 9 and the said buckles are especially adapted to be used in conjunction with a carrying device of'this character.

The hook 13 lies in the same plane as that in which the figure 11 lies. The free end portion of the strap 4 is carried under the figure 1 1 and the end of the strap is extended around the inner sideof the figure 11 and is then passed through the open center 12 and extended under the outer side of the figure 11 so that the extremity of the strap lies between the outer side of the figure 11 am the intermediate portion of the strap 4. .Vhen the strap is so connected with the buckle frame 9, the hook 13 may engage over one of the hooks 3, but while the strap is in engagement with the figure 11 the said hook 3 cannot pass through the space between the end of the hook 13 and the adjacent corner of the figure 11. The space between the end of the hook 13 and the adjacent side of the figure 11 is just sullicient to receive the strap 4- when moved edgewise across the frame 11 so that the end portion of the strap may be ed around the inner side of the figure 11 uithouthaving to thread the extremity of the strap through the hook 13.

'YVhen the parts are connected with each other as hereinbefore described and the de vice is attached to the'opposed sides of adjacent top bows, light articles may be interposed between the upper and lower portions of the straps and carried at the top of the vehicle without danger of crushing the articles or distorting the press of garments which may be carried by the attachment.

Having described the invention, what is claimed, is:

1. An article carrier comprising strip mem bers having opposed hooks, a strap connected at one end with one hook, a longitudinally extensible spring slidably connected with the intermediate portion of the strap and adapted to'be connected with an opposite hook, and a hook frame carried at the free end of the strap and adapted to be detachably connected with the first mentioned hook.

An article carrier comprising strip mem- (5 The material of the rod 1 hers hiwing opposed hooks, a strap member having at one end a loop engaging one of the hooks, a second loop slidably mounted upon the intermediate portion of the strap, a longitudinally extensible spring connected with said second loop and adapted to be connected with an opposite hook, and a hook frame having a rectangular end portion adjustahly connected with the free end of said strap, said hook fra'nie having a hooked extremity adapted to engage the first mentioned hook.

3. In an article carrier, parallel members having pairs of opposed hooks, a plurahty of flexible loops each secured to a hook of one of the members and a spring slidebly engaging each loop at one end and having its pposite end engaged with the hook of the pair which is secured to the other of the members.
