NONGLARE ELECTRIC LAMP FOR; HEADLIGHTS.
Application filed May 23,
The object of this invention is to provide an electric filament bulb lamp with an interior shield or light-filter which will prevent the projection of blinding rays into the eyes of a person positioned in front of the headlight in which the bulb is placed, and the special object of the invention is to so construct the nonglare shield that it shall be enclosed within the lamp-globe, where it will be out of the way and will be protected from breaking in handling, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing- Fig. 1 is a front view of our improved lamp;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Figs. 3 and 4 are similar views showing a modified arrangement of the screen or shield.
Referring to Figs, 1 and 2, the shield 5 is shown as being made of glass formed integral 0 with the usual filament-base 6. The shield is molded on the base at the same time the filament is molded or cast therein. The shield is supported on a laterally-extending offset 7, and it lies in a vertical position in front of 2 the filament. The shield is tinted to render it ray-filtering. The shield has sufficient dimensions to cover the filament when the'same is viewed from a point in front of the head.- light. The shield must, of course, be suf- 1924. Serial No. 715,406..
'mented in a recess in the lateral offset 7. This shield is shown as'being constructed of a very fine wire mesh, sometimes referred to as a mosaic screen. This fine wire mesh produces approximately the same translucent effect of etched ,or tinted glass, and therefore serves {.0 filter out 'orblock off the blinding rays of ight.
What we claim as new is: I
An electric filament lamp for use in headlights having the usual central filament projecting from the filament-base, and a light-filterin non-glare shield composed of a piece of ray ltering material supported on a forwardly-projecting offset from the top of said filament-base in front of said filament, for the purpose set forth. 7
In testimony whereof we hereunto afiix our signatures this 22nd day of May, 1924.
ROBERT P. McCURDY. FREDERICK W. HOCHSTETTER.
