Description
Patented 5 ll, 1928.
LUCY COTTON AMENT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ATOMIZER.
Application filed September 15, 1927. Serial No. 219,753.
My present invention relates to an atomizer which will be of an ornamental nature so as to appeal to the aesthetic sense, while at the same time performing the mechanical functions required of an article of this typi.
The invention is particularly concerned with an ornamental figure such as a toe (lancer, the pose of the figure being so chosen and arranged as to entirely conceal the atomizer structure, while at the same time permitting maximum eiiiciency of the atomizer proper.
To this end the invention contemplates the figure of a toe dancer standing with one leg vertical upon a pillow or cushion, the cushion servin as the reservoir for perfume or the like. he vertical tube of the atomizer, that is, the aspirator-is to be concealed Within the leg upon which the figure stands, the main portion of the atomizer structure being hidden within the dancers torso. lhe horizontal or spraying tube of the atomizer is concealed Within the upper portion of the dancers other leg which is held substantially horizontal, the foot being inclined backwardly toward the upstanding leg. An aperture in the knee of the dancers bent leg is provided through which the perfume is sprayed or atomized. It is preferable to provide the figure with a ballet or other skirt which clothing covers and conceals the bulb located at the rear of the figure for supplyin air to the atomizer.
The invention further consists in the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which, the
suitably dressed for the part and having one figure is a side elevation of a device embodyingamy invention. I
eferring now with particularity to the drawing, I have shown at l a hollow reservoir which may take the form of a cushion or pillow for containing the perfume or liquid to'be atomized. Itis desirable that this base and reservoir be suitably ornamented as by means of tassels 2 and cord 3 as well as the representation of a band or ribbon 4. A filling aperture is provided in the top of the cushion which aperture is concealed by a closure element 5 taking the form of a butterfly so that the appearance is of a but terfly having alighted upon the cushion 1 and the closure is thereby concealed;
Mounted upon the base reservoir 1 is a lifelike figure 6 of a toe dancer or the like leg 7 arranged vertically. The other leg is bent so that the upper portion 8 thereof is substantially horizontal, while the lower leg 9 is inclined backwardlv toward the vertical leg 7 thus making the figure assume the natural position of a toe dancer.
Rising within the vertical leg 7 and entirel concealed thereby is the aspirator tube 10 0 an atomizer which dips at its lower end into reservoir 1 and at its upper end is secured to the main body portion 11 of an atomizer. Also secured to the part 11 is a rubber bulb 12 which furnishes the air for the atomizer and which aspirates liquid from the reservoir up the tube 10 and through a horizontal tube 13 which is entirely concealed in the horizontal portion 8 of the bent leg to an aperture 14 in the knee of said leg where the spray escapes into the air.
I desire to provide a ballet or other ty of skirt 15 which will completely cover th bulb 12, so that to all intents and appearances the figure is but an ornamental statue of a toe dancer in a natural graceful attitude, the
fact that the figure embodies an atomizer being entirely concealed.
Obviously, the figure may be of china, colored glass, metal, or any suitable material to produce a lifelike and graceful figure and the doll may have natural hair or not as desired. An important object is that the figure shall not be grotesque, but shall repre sent exquisite grace and poise, so that it will have a maximum aesthetic appeal, while at the same time combining with such a form a utilitarian purpose. By arranging the legs of the doll in the manner shown, I am able to provide a figure with slight but dainty clothing which is suflicient to entirely cover the parts of the mechanism without producing aheavy or cumbersome efiect.
What I claim is:
1. An atomizer comprising the human fi ure of a toe dancer standing upon the toes 0% onefoot, the foot resting upon a hollow reservoir, said reservoir being in the form of a cushion, a vertical aspirator tube rising entirely within the leg upon which the figure stands and concealed thereby, a horizontal delivery tube concealed within the horizontal eeaeue with the aspirator and delivery tubes to lift liquid from the reservoir and eject the same through the delivery tube.
2. An atomizer comprising the human figure of a toe dancer standing upon the toes of one foot, a reservoir, a vertical aspirator tube rising entirely within the leg upon which the figure stands and concealed thereby a horizontal delivery tube concealed within the horizontal portion of the other ing at the knee of the bent leg and an aperture at this point through Wh1Cl1 spray from the delivery tube may escape into the air and means cooperating with the aspirator and delivery tubes to lift liquid from the reservoir and eject the same through the delivery tube.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
LUCY COTTON AMENT.
