This invention relates to a new anduseful device in the nature of a combination stove and oven, particularly adapted for heating and cooking purposes. Y

The object of the invention is to provlde a combination stove and oven of novel construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and 1llu s trated in the accompanying drawing, in which: 3 Fig. 1 shows a perspective front elevational view of my improved combination stove and oven, certain exterior parts removed so as to more clearly show the interior constructlon thereof.

As here embodied my improved device comprises briefly, a fire box 10, of box-like construction, supported by the upright members 11, or legs, attached at the corners of the said fire box and extended downwardly thereof. The lower oven 12, is of similar box-like construction, and is of suitable size to engage or fit on top of the fire box 10, or may be built integral therewith or attached thereto. The top oven 13, is of similar box-like construction, and is of suitable size to engage or fit on top of the lower oven 12, or may be built integral therewith or attached thereto.

The fire box 10, comprises plate members 14 and 15, attached, at or near the upper portion of the fire box 10, and extended horizontally inwardly therefrom, so as to provide a central opening. The rods 16 and 17, are supported by the plate members 14 and 15, respectively, and are positioned adjacent to the abovementioned opening formed by the plate members 14 and 15. A plurality of grate bars 18 and 19, are pivotally attached, at their upper extremities, to the rods 16 and 17 The grate bars 18 and 19 are alternately positioned on the rods 16 and 17 so as to interlock each other. The rods 20 and 21, are attached to the lower extremities of the grate bars 18 and 19. The operating rods 22 and 23, are pivotally attached intermediate to the rods 20 and 21, respectively, and are extended outwardly therefrom, through apertures formed in the sides of the fire box 10. The

operating rods 22 and 23, have attached at their extended extremities ringmembers 24 and 25, handles or the like, respectively, and are provided with a plurality of notches26 and27, respectively, adapted to engage the apertures formed in the sides of the fire box the fire box 10. The door 28, is provided with a handle 29, and is hinged, or otherwise removably attached to the front portion of the fire box 10, as a means of removing the ashes from the said fire box. 7

The lower oven 12, is provided with a front openlng 30, and a removable bottom member 31, supported by the cross members 32, attached to the lower portion of the lower oven 12. The above described construction is such as will permit coal to be placed on the grate bars 18 and 19, when the removable bottom member 31, is removed, and which will permit cooking utensils containing food to be cooked or baked, to be placed on the re movable bottom member 31, or on the cross members 32.

The top oven 13, is provided with a front opening 33, so as to permit cooking utensils containing food to be cooked or baked, to be placed on the bottom thereof.

The lower oven 12 and the top oven 13, are constructed so as to provide a space or chamber at the sides and top thereof, and has positioned therein, intermediate the said ovens 12 and 13, battle plates 34 and 35, extending horizontally, so as to provide a central opening. The chimney 36 is attached to the upper portion of the top oven 13, and is provided with the usual damper 37 pivotally mounted therein, as a means of regulating the draft.

The plate members 14 and 15, are provided with elongated apertures 40 and 41, respectively, adapted to receive the threaded members 42, bolts, screws, or the like. The threaded members 42, are also positioned in apertures formed in the supporting members 43 and 44, attached to the fire box 10. The

above-described construction is such as will permit the above-ment1oned plate members 14 and 15 to be increased or decreased, as may be desired, as a means of va ing the effectiveness of the fire on the grate ars 18 and 19.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:

1. In combination with an oven of the class described, plate members horizontally extended from opposite inner sides of the oven, and forming an opening between the edges thereof, rods rotatively mounted on the plate members near the edges forming the said opening, grate bars pivotally attached at one of their extremities to the said rods, and directed towards each other and alternately positioned, other rods attached to the free ends or the grate bars, and rods formed with a plurality of notches, attached to the said second mentioned rods, and adapted for extending thru apertures in the sides of the said oven, and arranged for permitting the said notches to engage the edges of the a ertures for holding the rods in various extend d positions, so as to hold the grate bars in various inclined positions.

2. In combination with an oven of the class described, plate members horizontally extended from opposite inner sides of the oven, and forming an opening between the edges thereof, rods rotatively mounted on the plate members near the edges forming the said opening, grate bars pivotally attached at one of their extremities to the said rods, and

directed towards each other and alternately positioned, other rods attached to the free ends of the grate bars,and rods formed with a plurality of notches, attached to the said second mentioned rods, and adapted for extending thru apertures in the sides of the said oven, and arranged for permitting the said notches to engage the edges of the apertures for holding the rods in various extended positions, so as to hold the grate bars in various inclined positions, the free ends of the rods with the notches being rovided with handles for the manual manipu ation thereof.
